The L-Lock Space Jump

Many of the "puzzles" in Metroid Prime usually require the use of something like the Grapple Beam or another item to reach something in the game. It's been designed so a "normal" Space Jump will go a maximum distance, leaving you just short of the target without said item.

However, but using the Visor Lock function in the game (known as the "L-Lock"), you can take advantage of the extra spring that releasing the locked Visor mid-jump will give you. Why you get this extra distance is still unknown, but never-the-less, it's extremely handy in getting a decent bit of extra distance. Especially when the target is lower than the starting point (Fungal Hall A without Grapple Beam being a perfect example). And as such, is practically one of the most basic moves used when Sequence Breaking and moving faster through MP as a whole.

.:Performing the L-Lock Space Jump:.
To perform an L-Lock Space Jump, you must learn how to first lock your view down. You achieve this by Holding R to bring your hand onto the gun for manual aiming, then hold up to force your view down. Now, quickly release R and hold L. Your view will now stayed in the down position.

You must now practice releasing the L button mid-jump (usually mid-way through your first jump), and then hitting jump again as you start to "come down" from your first jump. Voila! You have performed the L-Lock Space Jump.

There's a slight variation to this jump that's more advanced, and in some circumstances is very useful for getting onto ledges (Warrior Artifact Without Boost for Example). This move is known as the Twisting L-Lock Space Jump and it essentially allows Samus to land on a far away ledge by adjusting the collision detection around her feet. The "box" is rectangle in shape, so when she turns, it extends the "box" and so, Samus will still land on something if only one foot is on it, as this is enough.

To perform a Twisting L-Lock Space Jump, you start off with a L-Lock SJ as normal, but near the end of Jump 1, turn the controller ever so slightly in the opposite direction of which you want to turn. Then on the second jump, sharply turn the controller in the direction you want Samus to Face.
