Version History ============================================================================= 1.4.0 (2/25/04)- Just fixed a couple things that were out of order. I’ve also limited all sequence breaking in the guide to its own section, so it doesn’t bother people who don’t like to sequence break. 1.3.0 (2/19/04)- I've added some useful things this time around, including fixing some formatting errors, and also made a few corrections. I've added a sequence breaking section too which will continue to grow. 1.0.0 (2/14/04)- It's finally done! Everything is listed. Expect an update soon though... ============================================================================= 3. Prologue ============================================================================= Here is the prologue, taken from the Metroid: Zero Mission manual: "In the year 2003 of the Cosmic Calendar, representatives from the many different planets in the galaxy established a congress called the Galactic Federation, and an age of prosperity began. A successful exchange of cultures and civilization resulted, and thousands of interstellar spaceships shuttled back and forth between planets. Soon, however, Space Pirates began to attack the spaceships, threatening the galactic peace. The Galactic Police and Galactic Army struck against this aggression, but the pirates' attacks were powerful, and it was impossible to catch them all I the vast reaches of space. So, the Federal Bureau called together powerful bounty hunters to battle the pirates." "In the year 20X5 of the Cosmic Calendar, a terrible incident occurred. The Space Pirates attacked a deep-space research vessel and seized capsules containing samples of an unknown species that had been discovered on planet SR388. The Space Pirates' objective was to acquire this life-form: known simply as Metroids, these floating organisms were incredibly dangerous, as they could latch onto any other organism and drain its life-energy. Furthermore, it was possible to replicate Metroids in vast numbers by exposing them to beta rays. The hypotheses that the Metroids were responsible for one of the greatest mysteries in the entire galaxy- the extinction of planet SR388- was generally accepted as fact." "If the Space Pirates were able to breed the Metroids and use the creatures as biological weapons, the destruction of all galactic civilization would be near certain. After a desperate search, the Federation Police discovered the Space Pirates' base of operations on the fortified planet Zebes. They launched a full assault on the planet, but pirate resistance was strong, and the planet could not be taken. All the while, in a room hidden deep within the center of the pirate fortress, the preparations for multiplying the Metroids were progressing steadily." "As a last resort, the Federation Police decided on a risky strategy: to send a lone space hunter to penetrate the pirate base and destroy the mechanical life-form that controlled the fortress and its defenses- the Mother Brain. The space hunter chosen for this mission was Samus Aran. Considered the greatest of all the bounty hunters, Samus had successfully completed numerous missions that others had thought impossible. Despite her accomplishments, much of Samus's true identity remained wrapped in mystery." "Alone, Samus Aran successfully landed on the surface of Zebes, which was, in fact, the planet where Samus was raised as a child. Burying all memories of the planet, Samus agreed to carry out this mission and face the traps of the Mother Brain. But the question remained: could Samus Aran truly complete this task and return peace and order to the galaxy?" ============================================================================= 4. Controls ============================================================================= ======================= A. Basic Controls ======================= Control Pad: Left- Move Samus left (hold to run) Aim arm cannon left while hanging on a ledge Right- Move Samus right (hold to run) Aim arm cannon right while hanging on a ledge Down- Crouch down Enter morph ball while crouching or hanging on a ledge Aim arm cannon down while jumping, falling, or using a zip line Climb down ladders Up- Aim arm cannon directly up Climb up ladders Crouch from morph ball Stand from crouch Aim arm cannon up while holding a ledge A button- Jump B button- fire beam cannon (hold to charge) Plant bombs in ball mode (hold R and press B for a power bomb) L Button- Aim beam cannon up at a 45 degree angle Aim beam cannon down at a 45 degree angle (while holding down) R Button- "Shift" button (Shifts to use missiles or power bombs) Select Button- Second "Shift" button, used to switch between missiles and super missiles ======================= B. Special Techniques ======================= These really aren't special controls, more of techniques, but I'll put them here anyway. Bomb Jump ========= Simply press B while in morph ball and wait for it to explode. When it does, the explosion will propel you up. This is very helpful before you get jumpball. Infinite Bomb Jump (IBJ) ======================== This technique can be very hard to master, but is used very often in sequence breaking. There are two ways you can do this. The first is to time your bombs so that just before one explodes, you plant another. You can then plant another at the peak of your jump to go higher, and repeat this as many times as you want. Keep doing this and it will send you straight up. Another way to do this is to just tap B as fast as you can. This might cause you to mess up a couple times, but it is easier to do. Horizontal Bomb Jump (HBJ) ========================== This technique may be even harder than the IBJ. To do this, first plant a bomb, then move over a little bit in the direction you want to go. As soon as the bomb launches you, hold the direction towards where the bomb exploded and start laying bombs again, timing them (or just pressing B randomly if you want). If you did it correctly, each time a bomb explodes and you start planting more, you will move over towards the previous one planted, just to the right or left of it, and it will explode, launching you up and to the direction you want to go. Again I say, this can be very hard to do, but don't give up hope. Wall Jump ========= To do this you must jump against a wall. Samus will spin towards the wall. When you are up against the wall, press jump again and then the opposite direction of the wall. You will now be launched upwards the opposite direction of the wall. If there is another wall right next to the one you just jumped off, you can hold the direction you went after doing the first wall jump and while your still in the air go against the second wall and jump the opposite direction again. This can be repeated multiple times. Psuedo Screw Attack =================== This is not a true screw attack and is therefore MUCH weaker. If you have the charge beam just charge all the way, then do a spinning jump. If you hit an enemy in mid air, they will take damage. Shinespark ========== To perform this you must first run long enough to activate the speed booster (once attained). While speed boosting, tap down to crouch. Now you can do one of several things. You can jump (not pressing any direction) to go straight up. You can also jump then quickly press right or left (or their diagonal up) to do a shoulder charge. If you shoulder charge into a ramp, Samus will start going at full speed again up the ramp. In Zero Mission, you can even use Shinespark in morph ball once you have the high jump boots. Just tap down twice (to enter morph ball, still having shinespark charged) then jump and do the same thing you would as a normal shinespark. Power Grip ========== Not really much of a special technique, but still belongs here. To use the power grip, simply grab the edge of a wall (like in Fusion). To pull yourself up, press A and the direction towards the wall or platform while gripping. You can also aim and shoot or jump again. ============================================================================= 5. FAQS ============================================================================= Here are some common questions related to the game: Q. In your walkthrough it says that there is a save station in *insert area here* but I can't go there. Why not? A. Well, the only explanation is that you are playing on hard mode where some of the save stations are sealed off. Q. I finished 100% but I still got the ending with Samus in her suit! Why? A. Because you are playing on easy mode. It's as simple as that. Q. I can't get a missile/super missile/power bomb/energy tank in *insert area here*. What should I do? A. You can just skip it. See the item checklist section. Q. I found an easier way to get the missile/super missile/power bomb/energy tank in *insert area here*! A. Well tell me! Q. I got a missile/super missile/power bomb/energy tank before it is mentioned in the guide. What should I do? A. Again I say, see the item checklist section. Q. I need help beating Kraig. What should I do? A. There is no "Kraig," just Kraid. If you need help beating him then see the bosses and mini-bosses section. Q. I have a question that isn't answered here. Now what? A. See Contact Info. Q. I think you made up these questions! A. Of course I did! How could I get them in here before the guide was first put on the site? Q. How do I activate the Zip Line things in Kraid? A. See my guide for that one. ============================================================================= 6. Game Walkthrough ============================================================================= ===================== A. Beginning the Game ===================== ======== Brinstar ======== As you start a scene will show Samus opening her eyes and then going directly into play (a lot better than Fusion's beginning in my opinion). When you take control go to the left of the screen, jump over the wall in your way, shooting any enemies in your path. You should see the morph ball upgrade when you get all the way to the left of the screen. Jump into it to collect it. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ MORPH BALL UPGRADE COLLECTED ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Now move to the right, go into morph ball and roll under the small passageway. Continue going right ignoring the enemies and then through the door. In this room there is nothing to do (yet...) so just continue on. In this room just run past the Shriek Bats and use morph ball to go under the small gap. You will see a Chozo statue. Jump into its hands and enter morph ball mode. The statue will reveal the way for you to go and recharge your energy. Now follow that path and then go into the next room. There is a save station in the door to you right and you may want to use it. Head back out after saving into the room you came from. Go to the point in the room that is marked on your map, killing all Zoomers that are on the platforms you need to jump on. Go through the door to your left, past the Shriek Bats up against the wall. Crouch down and shoot the blocks away. Go into morph ball and roll under it. Enter the next door. Here you will see a Chozo statue holding an item. Shoot the item and jump into it to acquire the long beam! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ LONG BEAM COLLECTED ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Go back into the room you came from, this time take the upper path and shoot the blocks out of your way. Keep going through the different rooms until you reach the top. Once here go to the left and go through the door. You will see a statue blocking the way. Go back to the previous room and go to the door on the right. In here is another Chozo statue telling you where to go. Do the same thing as last time and then continue on. Fall down here until you get to a door behind some blocks that you must shoot to get rid of. Do this and enter the door. Continue on and you will see a red door. If you want to save, go down one more door and enter. Once you save go down to the bottom of the room and enter the door. Run across the area here and jump over the lava when you need to. Jump on the platforms above the lava and collect your first missile expansion. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ MISSILE LAUNCHER COLLECTED ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ With the collection of missiles you can now open red doors. Go back from the way you came to be ambushed by the first "boss" in the game! For information on beating it, see the bosses section. Go back to the room with the red door and go through it. Run across this area jumping over the lava and shooting enemies when necessary. In the next room jump up to the top and stand on the platform. To your right you will see a sack thing. First go to the left, through the wall here to meet another sack thing. Shoot it until it dies, then go across to get a [MISSILE (10) EXPANSION]. Now go back and shoot the other sack for a while and it will die. As you go to the right you will see another one. Just destroy it and proceed to drop below and enter the next door. In the next major room there will be a pillar in your path. Go in front of it, crouch and shoot at the wall twice. Go into morph ball and roll under the pillar to get a [MISSILE (15) EXPANSION]. Go to your right to meet the worm again. Do the same thing as last time to beat him. When you kill him he will drop the charge beam! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ CHARGE BEAM COLLECTED ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Now go to your right to get your first [ENERGY (1) TANK]. Continue going to the right and go through to the next room. Go down to the bottom of the room and go into the missile locked door to download the map for this area. Go back into the previous room and go in the door above the one you first came from. If you keep going left here you can save. Now go into the upper area of this room, going through the door to your left. There will be some blocks to bomb, which you cannot do yet, so go up to the top area and roll through. Open the missile locked door and enter the next room. In here is another Chozo statue. You know what to do... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ MORPH BALL BOMBS COLLECTED ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ After getting the bombs, go down and bomb the blocks under you, going "through" the wall into the next area of this room. Bomb the blocks that you can using bomb jump to go up and get a [MISSILE (20) EXPANSION]. Go back down to the lowest level and leave this room. After going through the morph ball tunnel in the next room, bomb the pillar. A bunch of enemies will come out and cling to you. Bomb them to kill them all. The doors will now reactivate so go through the door. Go down and to the door on your right that you came from before in the next room. At this point you have a choice to make. You can either go back from the way you came, all the way down to where you got the first missile expansion, then go up to the top of the vertical room and go in the door to your right, or go for a little "sequence breaking" (quotation marks because its not true sequence breaking). I will be following the latter route since the first is easy and we've done it before. Start by killing the Zoomers on the platforms here. Now here is the tricky part. Go into morph ball and do the infinite bomb jump (see special techniques section) to get to the platform above you. Now go to the left edge of this platform and IBJ all the way to the top of the room. When you get to the top hold left so that you land next to the door. This can be VERY annoying and difficult to do because of the enemies that constantly hit you when you try to go up. Once you get to the top go left avoiding the enemies here until you get to a Chozo Statue. Go into the statue's hands and it will tell you it's time to go to Norfair. Roll above the statue in morph ball and into the next room. There is a pillar here that you must bomb to get past. Bomb the red part of the pillar and it will move out of your way, so go ahead under it. Keep going to the left and in your path is a [MISSILE (25) EXPANSION]. After you grab this continue going left. There is a save station here you may want to use because if you die you will have to do the IBJ all over again. At this point, if you are a sequence breaker, I suggest you take a look at the sequence breaking section... Go in the room above the earlier save station in one of the two main vertical rooms of Brinstar (it’s a formerly missile locked door). Keep going right until you get to the small single room. Bomb the floor here then fall to the bottom. Use IBJ to bomb the block in front of the missile expansion, then use it again to roll in the tunnel and get the [MISSILE (30) EXPANSION]. Go back to the save station area. You might want to save again before proceeding. Continue going left through the different pipes and bombing different pillars and blocks until you get to the room that goes straight up and down. Kill the Zoomers on the platforms and begin to IBJ all the way up to the top avoiding the enemies. Once you get to the top, roll through the tunnel and grab a [MISSILE (35) EXPANSION]. Now go back to the previous room and drop down to the bottom. Now go back into the room where you got the first missiles. This time go over to the morph ball tunnel, go to the end of it and lay some bombs to blow away the wall. Continue on going right until you get to an elevator. Take it down to get to Norfair... ============================== B. Norfair and The Chozo Ruins ============================== ======= Norfair ======= As you go down this elevator, a cut-scene will show the Mother Brain watching Samus. When you get off the elevator your going to bomb your way down to the bottom, where you can go to a save station if you want. The first thing to do here is to go left. Keep going until you see a missile expansion above you. IBJ your way up to get the [MISSILE (40) EXPANSION]. From here continue going left until you get to an elevator. Take this up to Crateria. ======== Crateria ======== Once you are there, go right. You should be in an area with water and some platforms. Jump up the platforms, bombing any blocks in your way, heading left. Eventually you will get to a small morph ball area. When you get to a point where it goes straight up, jump. You are now in The Chozo Ruins. Keep going right bombing blocks (not the Chozo blocks) in your path. Ignore the missile expansion for now and keep going right. You will see a Chozo statue that is worn down. Get the item in its hands to find out that the item is unknown and not compatible with this suit. However, you can now destroy the Chozo blocks by shooting or bombing them. So go back to where the missile expansion was, shoot down at the block, and grab the [MISSILE (45) EXPANSION]. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ UNKNOWN ITEM COLLECTED ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Go back into the previous room and bomb the blocks, including the Chozo block and go up their. Go to the left, ascending the platforms into the next room. In here you will try to run across the ground, but will fall. When you land start bombing the wall and it will reveal a hidden path. Continue up the path into the next room to get... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ POWER GRIP COLLECTED ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Go back into the room that you fell in. When you get back in here, the statue in the middle will rise out of the ground and you will have to use power grip to get to the top (see special techniques for power grip controls). When you get to the top go to your left. In the next room shoot the blocks in your way and move across the platforms until you have to go down. At the wall in your way use power grip to bomb the top and move on. You are now in the landing area of your ship. You can go here to refill your weapons and energy, and save the game. Go right from here, through the next couple rooms, and down the elevator back to Norfair. ======= Norfair ======= From where you get off the elevator, go down to the bottom of the room. Go in the door to your right and go to the other side of that long room to get a [MISSILE (50) EXPANSION]. Go back to the room with the elevator. Now go through the door in this room that you did not just come from. You should have been here before, so just go across, all the way to the save station and save if you want. Now go in the room to the right of the save station. In here you will have to climb to the top of the room, move over to the right a little, fall, and repeat several times. Towards the end of the room you will see an enemy jumping up from under the ground and several platforms on the lava under you. Bomb your way down to the platform under you and start using the IBJ to get to the upper level and collect a [MISSILE (55) EXPANSION]. From here just go back down and continue through the room. You will now be in a room with what appears to be eyes all over. Climb up the room and go through the first door to your left. Avoid falling in the lava in this room as you will take major damage. Don't you think it's about time to get a new beam? Well get to the end of this room for your reward... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ICE BEAM COLLECTED ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ With this beam you will be able to freeze enemies, which can be very useful... You may want to recharge your health here, especially if you took damage in the previous room. Now go under the statue and bomb the wall here to discover a secret passage. Go on through into the next room, where you can go to the left for a save station. After saving move up through the room freezing the enemies and using them as platforms, to get to the next door. In this room there is another Chozo guide statue. This statue will direct you to the lair of Kraid. Go behind the statue and using the enemies as platforms go through to the next room. In here use the enemies as platforms again to get up into the next area. Use the enemy here to bomb the upper part of the wall revealing a [MISSILE (60) EXPANSION]. Go through the door to get back to the room with the eyes again. Go down to the bottom and now all the way back to the first save station in Norfair. Now take the elevator back to Brinstar... ================== C. Brinstar Depths ================== ======== Brinstar ======== When you arrive in Brinstar start heading to the left, bombing the wall in your way and moving on into the next room. From here just go up. Once you get to the point with two doors, go in the door to your left. When you get into the vertical room, begin to drop down. About midway down you will notice a block that can be bombed. Do so and proceed into the newly opened passage. In here go to the left of the room and you will drop down to the next level. Shoot the enemies in here and gather any health they drop if you need it. Go into morph ball and roll under the platform the Zoomers were on. You will fall again and you can now get a [MISSILE (65) EXPANSION]. Once you have that, go onto the blocks that can be bombed and do so. When you fall, you will notice the Super Missiles are here. You can't get them until you have speed booster, so just move on to your right. You will be in the vertical room that you came from again. Continue to drop down until you get to the bottom, then go in the door to your left (or to your right if you want to save). Move past the statue into the room with the circle, marking an upgrade. In here shoot the ceiling to reveal an energy tank. IBJ your way up to get the [ENERGY (2) TANK]. Now go in the door to your left. In this room, bomb the floor and fall down. When you get to the very bottom, stand on the elevated ground next to the left wall. Move over a little in morph ball to fall into a morph ball launcher. Lay a bomb and it will shoot you up to the top of the screen where you can get a [MISSILE (70) EXPANSION]. Drop down again and enter the door to your right. Take the elevator down to Kraid's Lair... ===== Kraid ===== When you get into the lair you can drop down and go to your left to save. In the save station, go into morph ball, move to the left wall. Bomb your way up, holding left to enter a secret passage. Make your way through here to grab a [MISSILE (75) EXPANSION]. Now go back and save again. After saving, go through the red door using a missile. In here just keep going right and eventually you will come to a [MISSILE (80) EXPANSION]. Keep going right, blasting enemies and shooting walls in your path, eventually going through the door into the next room. In here bomb the wall to your right and you will fall down. Bomb the blocks down here and you will find some sort of machine. Go into morph ball and sit in the machine, lay a bomb, and you will be launched to the top of the room. Drop down a little bit from where you are now to reach a [MISSILE (85) EXPANSION]. Now go back up to where you just were. Use power grip to grab the wall to your right. Jump to the left and then jump higher to the right again. Aim and shoot the blue block, then jump up to the left again. Jump to the top of the right wall and then jump across to the top of the left wall. Now go to the very top of the room and enter the door there. Shoot the blocks in this room to clear the way for you to go above the pillar. Continue going left, jumping over the lava, until you go into the next room. In here drop down in morph ball. As you fall you will see a blue block. Bomb this and then use the launcher machine at the bottom to go back up and climb into the area you just bombed. There is a missile locked door here that you can blast open. Do this and move on through. There is now a machine that you must activate by going into morph ball mode. Once you activate it you can use the zip lines. Shoot the red button above you to make the zip line come to you. Grab it and hold on to get an [ENERGY (3) TANK]. Go through the door here to reach a save station. After saving go in the door to your right to get into the room where you were earlier. Drop down to the next level and go through the door. Use the zip line in the room after that to get to a mini boss. See the bosses section for how to beat it. Once you beat it go into the hole it left behind and bomb it a couple times. Once you fall down, go left, across the small platforms. Jump and shoot the cracked part of the wall here, then roll through in morph ball. Bomb the blocks and grab the [MISSILE (90) EXPANSION]. Now go back into the room before this. Go to the door to your left and use the launcher to get back to the top, then go through that door. Drop down in this room and then go all the way back to the first save station in Kraid's Lair. Drop down and go into the door under the save station. Use the zip line to get across the room, but keep shooting while on the zip line or you will hit a platform and fall off. In the next room just go up to the door above you. In here there will be large enemies that will have lots of health. To kill them, either use charge shots or missiles, missiles go much faster though. After you kill both of them in here open the door above the one you came in. In here go into morph ball and go down the tube to get a [MISSILE (95) EXPANSION]. Drop down to the bottom level of this room. Bomb the ground here and the lava will disappear, so jump down there, and go in the door to your right. You are now in a small hallway, just go in the next room. In here there is a cracked floor. Ignore that for now and head into the next room. In here, take out ALL of the enemies. For some (the purple ones) you will need to use the morph ball launchers that can be found in the right half of the room by bombing the floor. Once the room is cleared of enemies, go over to the right side of the room, shoot the red button to get the zip line on your side. Now use bomb jump to get into the zip line in morph ball mode. This will carry you all the way over to a [MISSILE (100) EXPANSION]. If you can't get it now you can always come back later when you have screw attack... For now, go back into the room with the cracked floor. Bomb it to open a secret passage. There is another place to bomb in here, so do that. At the bottom go over to the right of the room and shoot the ceiling to destroy the blocks there. Jump and shoot the other block in your way, then go up through the passage. In here you will see a Chozo statue with an item. Get it to find out that it is another unknown item. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ UNKNOWN ITEM COLLECTED ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Recharge your health and missiles here before shooting the block and moving on. Now go back up into the passage way, this time going left, up into the door. Keep going right, destroying all the enemies you meet and you will arrive at a the save station. In the room after the save station, you will see that the floor is cracked in one area. Bomb it and as you begin to fall, leave morph ball mode, turn left and begin shooting, still holding left. If done correctly you will grab the wall. Go through the door to your left. You will now see a strange creature on the door. When it opens its eye, fire either a charge shot or a missile. Watch out for the beams it shoots at you though. When it's dead, go through the door and get ready to engage Kraid... See the bosses section for tips on beating him. Once our morbidly obese friend meets his doom, go on to the left, bomb the blocks there and go into the next room to get... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ SPEED BOOSTER COLLECTED ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Recharge your health here real quick. Now go under the statue, shoot the door and then begin to run to the right. Keep shooting doors in your path until you get to the end where you can't run anymore. Ascend up the room using enemies as platforms. Go in the first door you see to your left. Run to the other side of the room, jump up into the top left corner and then shoot/bomb to reveal a [MISSILE (105) EXPANSION]. Go all the way back to the room you came from and start climbing up again. At the top you can save to your left. After saving go across to the door to your right. As you go across on the zip line, try to kill as many enemies as you can as they will cause problems for you at the end of the line if you don't. You can take them out with a good missile or so. When you are on the other side, go into morph ball and roll through the passageway. Shoot the ground under you and drop all the way down to the bottom. Go into the door to your left, moving across killing enemies in your path. Go in the door to your left to download the map for Brinstar Depths. Go back into the previous room, roll under the platform and you will fall into another morph ball launcher. Use it to go to the top of the room where you will go in the door here. In this room kill all the enemies first. Now jump to the top of the middle section of the room, where there are some platforms. Use power grip to hold on to the upper most one to your right, then jump to the left grabbing the edge, QUICKLY climb up, rolling into morph ball, then roll out of morph ball, grab the next ledge and quickly climb up again, roll over the edge and then fall to get a [MISSILE (110) EXPANSION]. Go in the door in the right of the room now. In here start climbing back up until you get to a red door on your left. Shoot it and begin running. In here you are going to have to do a shinespark to get to the energy tank that awaits you. See the special techniques section for info on how to do this. Once you do this you will have obtained [ENERGY (4) TANK]. Go back to the main vertical room from which you just came. Go up to the top and take the elevator. Thus concludes the legacy of Kraid... ========================================== D. Returning to Norfair - Attack of Ridley ========================================== ======== Brinstar ======== Once you arrive in Brinstar the wall to your right will explode. Go through it. You will arrive at a Chozo guide statue. This statue will tell you to go to Norfair. So go back to your left, past the elevator. Go up in the next room and in the first door to your right. Keep going from here to a save station if you want to use it. Start ascending the vertical room until you get right next to where you saw the super missile upgrade (should be marked in green on the map). Now climb several platforms above that, and then jump to the right, against the wall, holding right. You should catch a ledge. Roll in there to find a secret room! Bomb the ground against the wall, and fall down. Freeze the enemies in here and use them as a platform to climb up to a [MISSILE (115) EXPANSION]. Jump back down and go into the morph ball passage to your right. Bomb the blocks in your way now, and go back up onto the normal ground. Go in the door to your right, all the way to the elevator down to Norfair. ======= Norfair ======= In Norfair, go past the save station into the next room. Go all the way to the far side of this room, then start ascending the vertical room, all the way to the top. Go through the room here to the left, but don't fall in the lava or it will hurt you. Get to the other side to reach a [MISSILE (120) EXPANSION]. Now go back to the eyeball room. Go all the way back to the previous room and build up a speed booster, shoot the door to open it, and fall through the floor in the eyeball room. As you fall, you will reach more blocks that you must use speed booster on. Go in the door to your left, to the end of the ground, turn around and begin running while shooting to build up another speed booster, then get to the eyeball room and fall through the floor. Once you fall down, go in the door to your left to get to a Chozo Statue. Get the item in its hands to get the Hi-Jump (yes that is how it is spelled). ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ HI-JUMP COLLECTED ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ After you get the hi-jump, you must go all the way back to Brinstar. Now would also be the time to go for the Screw Attack early (see Sequence Breaking section). ======== Brinstar ======== In the room after the save station near where you got missile expansion 25, shoot the ceiling. The blocks should disappear. Now, jump up there and grab the ledge, then pull yourself up. Jump to the left, all the way to the top of the room. When you get up here shoot the blocks above you, then jump up again to go up to the next level. Go into the door to your left. In here you will see some weird sack creature that you can't destroy. Just wait for a while and parasites will come and devour them right before your eyes! Now go to the newly opened path to your left. As you cross, be careful not to stand on the platforms for too long. Now just make your way across this room (not hard at all). Once you get across, bomb the blocks to let the parasites fall and begin snacking again. Once they are done, go through the door and claim your prize! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ VARIA SUIT COLLECTED ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Recharge your health and then go back to the room before. Jump into the lava (don't worry, it won't hurt) and bomb the ground around here to fall down a little. Crouch and shoot all the blocks to your left, then roll into the tunnel in morph ball mode. Get to the other side to reach an [ENERGY (5) TANK]! From here go all the way back to Norfair. ======= Norfair ======= In Norfair, make your way all the way back to the room where you got hi-jump. Once you get here, go back to the eyeball room before it. Jump to get over the ledge to your right and obtain a [MISSILE (125) EXPANSION]. Now jump back over the ledge and go in the door here. Roll under the statue and go all the way through the room to the left, into the next door. In here, destroy all the blocks in your path, and then use speed boost to jump through the blocks and climb over the wall, then go down through the door. In here, take out the monstrous sidehopper with missiles before proceeding to a save station. Save and then go to the left. Keep going left until you get to a vertical room. In here, drop down and go in the door to your left to download the map, then go back to the vertical room. Jump in the lava to find out its only a hologram. Bomb the ground and blocks in your path to reach the bottom. This time don't go in the lava, but go in the door to your right. Go through the next room, into a small room. Bomb the floor to the right of the room, fall down and enter the door here. Start going to the right until you reach a point about midway through the room marked with a circle on the map (indicating an upgrade). Shoot the ceiling around here to reveal a [MISSILE (130) EXPANSION]. Go all the was to the end of the room and grab the [MISSILE (135) EXPANSION] here. Go all the way back to the room where you had to bomb the floor now. Make your way up to the top of this room and then go in the door to your right. You will be in a room with tall weeds. Shoot the weeds to kill them. Some will have enemies tangled in them. Use missiles to kill those. In the room after that, bomb the ground and drop down into the hologram lava, then go to the bottom and into the door to your left. In the next room bomb the wall, kill the giant sidehopper, bomb the next wall and then go through the door. In here is a Chozo Statue. Shoot the item in its hand and get the Wave Beam! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ WAVE BEAM COLLECTED ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Go back through the rooms, out of the hologram lava, and into the door to your right to save. In the next room you will see a huge parasite thing. Get to the ground under it and start using charge shots on its stomach to take it out. Start to go through the room, only to meet another parasite. For this one, you will have to shoot it until it backs up, then lay a bunch of bombs right in its path before it starts to charge at you. If done correctly, the bombs should have exploded, just as the parasite passes over them, hurting it. Repeat this until it dies. Now stand under its shell and shoot the ceiling to reveal an energy tank. Use a missile right under it to open the space there and grab the [ENERGY (6) TANK]. Now start walking left until you can't go any farther without jumping. Start running, shooting everything in your path to build up a speed boost. Open the door, still shooting and break through the ground in the next room. Jump up onto the ledge to get a [MISSILE (140) EXPANSION]. Now go in the door under you. You will be in a save station. Save if you want and then move on. In here you will have to shoot the weeds again, using missiles on any that normal shots don't destroy. In the next room bomb the ground and fall through the passageway then lay another bomb to open the way to a mini-boss. See the Boss section for info on beating it. After it dies, jump down and go into the elevator room to your right and go down the elevator. After the cut scene finishes, go back up the elevator (yes you heard me). Now go over to where the plant mini-boss was. There is now a tunnel there for you to follow, so take it down into Ridley... ====== Ridley ====== Once in Ridley go down a little more, then go through the tunnel to your left. In here destroy all the sacks you see, then go to the end of the room and jump up to where you see the super missile upgrade to be ambushed by the next boss (wow two in a row, aren't you lucky!). Once he dies, go claim the Super Missile as your own! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ SUPER MISSILE COLLECTED ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ From here go to the room to your right, use a missile on the floor, then fall down to the area below. There is now a green door to your left, and a blue to your right. If you want to save, go in the blue door, otherwise use a super missile on the door to your left and go through. Run through this room destroying enemies. In the next room you will see an energy tank. Don't be so quick to start celebrating though, as you will have to jump across a hologram gap to get it. So do this to get the [ENERGY (7) TANK]. Now go in the door to your left. Bomb the ground against the wall and then move away quickly. Shoot the enemies that come out then proceed into the next room. Drop down in this room and go left for a save station if you want. Now go through the passageway, down into the next area. Jump up on the pillar to get a [MISSILE (145) EXPANSION], then continue going down. When you get to the bottom, enter the door to your right to get to a map station and download the Ridley map. Go through the door to your right again. Continue going right until you get to a [MISSILE (150) EXPANSION]. Now turn around and start going left. When you get to the main chunk of land (should be just a little to the left from the missile expansion), shoot the ceiling and jump up here, then climb up into a secret passage. Start running left building up a speed boost. When you get to the end of the tunnel, tap down to save the boost, then jump down. Jump onto the bottom of the ramp, then make sure the door is open and do a horizontal shinespark to the left. Run through the map room, open the door, and run into the next room. In here fall through the floor, go all the way to the right wall, then run into the next room. Keep running in this room until you get to the end. Here use a shinespark to go straight up, then use power grip to grab the wall and pull yourself up. Keep going through this "maze," trying not to hit the bottom or you will fall. At the end you will have to go all the way to the right wall, then go into morph ball and start going left, quickly leave morph ball and shoot the block in your way, then grab the ledge to quickly pull yourself up to a [MISSILE (155) EXPANSION]. Go over to the middle of this ledge, and VERY QUICKLY shoot some missiles straight up, then grab the ledge, pull yourself up and repeat. Eventually you will be able to jump up again and pull yourself up one level, then stand right under the next missile expansion. Just shoot another missile up and then grab the [MISSILE (160) EXPANSION]. Now go all the way against the left wall in here, then open the door, run through and when you get to the wall in the next room, do a shinespark straight up again. Start going through the room to your right and you will arrive at a save station. Go in the door to your right. Now start going up in here, not in the next door, but the one after that. Go left here and you will pass a "bridge," or an area of ground that can be destroyed by being shot. Go past that one and past the next one. At the third one, destroy it and then jump down. Go into the morph ball passage to the bridge under here, above some lava. Bomb the bridge to fall into the hologram lava then bomb the bottom right hand corner of this area to get a [MISSILE (165) EXPANSION]. Make your way back up to the main area of this room by bombing the area to the right of the bridge revealing a hole in the ceiling. Shoot up then jump up here and climb out. Continue going left, into the next room and you will see an easy to get missile expansion. Just lay a bomb under it and then jump up to get the [MISSILE (170) EXPANSION]. From here, jump to the left and grab the edge. Pull yourself up and lay a bomb here to open a secret passage. Go up here and go to the right, lay a bomb at the end of the tunnel to see a cool looking explosion, then bomb the center block to get a [SUPER MISSILE (4) EXPANSION]. Go back down to the main part of this room and go in the door to your left. Freeze the enemy here as soon as you walk in, then use it as a platform to reach a [MISSILE (175) EXPANSION]. Carefully jump down to your left grabbing the ledge and pulling yourself up, then go in the door here. Proceed through the next room, killing the enemies, then go into the room after that for an easy [SUPER MISSILE (6) EXPANSION]. From here, jump up to the top right hand corner of the screen, pull yourself up the ledge to reveal a passageway, then go up for an easy [MISSILE (180) EXPANSION]. Go in the door to your left. Jump down in morph ball then leave morph ball and grab the ledge. Turn to your right and jump to grab the ledge a little bit above you. Now turn back to you left, jump up there, pull yourself up and grab a [MISSILE (185) EXPANSION]. Now go down to where you entered the room. Drop down in morph ball, but this time don't grab the ledge. Instead roll over to the right, lay a bomb, and quickly leave morph ball and grab the ledge to pull yourself up and get another [MISSILE (190) EXPANSION]. Yes, I know, it seems like Nintendo isn't even trying... Go back to the room where you got missile expansion 165 (look back for reference, it should be a vertical room). Drop down and go in the door to your left for a save station. Go to the previous room, and once in here go in the door to your right. Run through the next room and the one after that. You should now be in a greenish room. Shoot the floor next to the first short wall you see (actually more of a ledge or raised area, but its still when you first walk in the room). Drop down here and run to the right to grab an [ENERGY (8) TANK]. Now go all the way back to the save station. Go through the door to your left into the next room. In here just run to the left of the screen, where you will meet another one of those eyeball things on the door (the same kind that was at Kraid). Kill it and move on. Run across Ridley's room to the next to get an unknown item. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ UNKNOWN ITEM COLLECTED ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Shoot the block and run through the wall behind the statue to get an [ENERGY (9) TANK]. Now run back to fight Ridley... See the Bosses section for help beating him. Once he goes down, recharge your health and go back to the room before Ridley's room. Freeze the enemy that comes out of the pipe here, and use it as a platform to get up to the next level. Run to your right to fall back down and go in the door here. You can save here before moving on. In the next room there is nothing to do, so just go all the way out to the rightmost room (the tall vertical room all the way to the right of the map). From here go down to the bottom of the room and in the door to your left. Run through here, shooting the ceiling, until you open a passage (should be near the beginning). Jump up there and go all the way to the left of the passage. Start running right, shooting the blocks in your way, building up a shinespark. When you get to the end of the passageway, crouch to save the shinespark, jump down, open the door and run through. In here, go to the near bottom of the save station, shoot the door open, crouch and shinespark horizontal to the right through the open door, up the ramp. In the next room, crouch to save your shinespark then jump up two platforms. Do a horizontal shinespark here to burst through the wall. Now we're not done with shinesparks yet. Go to the to the left here on the ledge, turn right, shoot the door open and start running. In the next room, when you are about to hit a wall, go into morph ball (with a shinespark charged), roll under the gap, then do a morph ball shinespark straight up. When you reach the top, leave morph ball, grab the ledge, pull yourself up, go into morph ball and bomb the blocks here. It will now be a "race" to the missile expansion. So roll to the left, avoid hitting the ground and when you get to the end grab the [MISSILE (195) EXPANSION]. At times during this you will have to leave morph ball mode, jump up and grab a ledge. At the last ledge, pull yourself up, into morph ball, roll off the other side, leave morph ball, grab the ledge again, then QUICKLY jump to the left, grab the ledge and pull yourself up to get the expansion. This can be VERY difficult to get right, and is always annoying. If you want to get this easily, come back later when you get *SPOILERS* the Space Jump. *END SPOILERS* From where you go the expansion, you will fall back down one level. Go to the far right wall, and start running to the left. Shoot open the door and run through. When you get right under the part in the next room where there is a hole in the ceiling above you, do a shinespark straight up. Go to the left against the wall, shoot the door open and run through. In the next room keep running and shooting the blocks in your way. At the second set of blocks you will have to use a missile, so do so quickly. At the very end, jump while running to break through the blocks and get a [MISSILE (200) EXPANSION]. Now run to the left, open the door, run through and burst through the blocks here. Climb to the top of this room, shooting the block here, then running "through" the wall and climbing up again. Go in the door to your left at the top. Here jump across to the other side of the small lava pit, a little past the pipe in the ground. Wait for the enemy to come out and then do a half jump (half of a full jump). When the enemy passes over you, shoot straight up to freeze it, then jump on it and jump up the ledge to get a [MISSILE (205) EXPANSION]. Proceed through the room and up the elevator once you get there to go to Norfair. This concludes the legend of Ridley... =============================== E. Tourian and the Mother Brain =============================== ======= Norfair ======= When you arrive in Norfair, go right and through the room. When you reach the bottom of the next room, start running left. While your running, keep shooting. After a LONG run, you will fall through the ground and onto a morph ball launcher. Use it to get launched WAY up. When you get to the top go to your left. Keep going through the different rooms until you arrive at a Chozo Statue. You know what to do... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ SCREW ATTACK COLLECTED ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Go back to the previous room and use screw attack under the missile expansion, then jump up to grab the [MISSILE (210) EXPANSION]. Go through the door to your right. In here, use screw attack to go down one level, then open the door to your right. Keep going right through the different rooms until you get to the vertical room. It shouldn't take you too long since you can now destroy most enemies with a single hit of your screw attack. When you get here, jump up to the ledge above the door. Go up and to the right. When you are under the bridge, use screw attack on the blocks to your right, and then jump up there. Here go in the door to your left. Go to the left of this room and open the door with a super missile. In the room after the next, keep moving left until you get to a spot marked with a circle on the map (should be near the end of the room). Stand on the destroyed wall here and shoot straight up to reveal a [MISSILE (215) EXPANSION]. Continue going left from here. In the next room go all the way up against the left wall. Go into morph ball, jump, and lay a bomb in mid-air. Now quickly jump over to the left to get a [SUPER MISSILE (8) EXPANSION]. Now go all the way back to the room before the vertical room. Start running to build up a speed boost, shooting everything in your path. In the next room, crouch down just before the bridge to save the charge, then run onto the bridge and use a shinespark straight up. At the top, drop down a little and go through the door to your left. We are done here for now, so make your way to the elevator, back to Brinstar. When you arrive in Brinstar, start heading to the left. When you get to the area of ground that is flat (the area where you first battled the worm boss), go up against the right "wall" here. Start running to the left, open the door and run through. When your speed boost is built up, crouch down, turn around, shoot open the door and start running through. When you get through here, go to the bottom of the ramp, turn around, open the door, go into morph ball and do a morph ball shinespark to the left. Go through the door into the next room. When you get into the room after that, quickly press down again to save your speed boost. Wait for the enemies to get out of your way and then do another morph ball shinespark to the left. This should take you all the way up to a [SUPER MISSILE (10) EXPANSION]. Now go back into the vertical room. In here climb all the way up, one door from the top. Go in here and roll under the morph ball area when you enter, then turn around and take the path above you. Go to the very top. When you get there, look at your map. You will notice that there is a room marked to your left. Go here. In this room, the two statues will open their mouths and reveal a new path for you to take. Do so and head down into Tourian... ======= Tourian ======= On your way down, you will see a scene with some Metroids sucking the life out of a Space Pirate! The first thing to do here is to go to your right and save. Now proceed through the different rooms, going down. You will see dead pirates everywhere. Eventually you will come to a room with a Metroid in it. Freeze it with your ice beam and shoot it with five missiles or a super missile to destroy it. If it latches onto you, just go into morph ball and plant a bomb to get it off. Now you know how to destroy them, so go to your left into the next room. From now on, just about every room in Tourian will have a certain number of Metroids for you to kill before moving on. The rooms are pretty straight forward, so there is no need for explaining what to do in them. Just remember that you can bomb bridges, and if you ever get stuck in a room, just use bombs on the floor. Eventually, you will get to a missile locked door. Blast it open and go on through to battle the Mother Brain. Once the Brain is dead, you will have to make a quick escape. Go as fast as you can up the platforms in the next room and eventually up the elevator. Here keep going up as high as you can, then start running to the right, building a speed boost to break through the blocks in the next room. Jump on your ship and watch the cut-scene... ============================== F. Chozodia - The Untold Story ============================== ======== Chozodia ======== You now just have a wimpy pistol, which can only stun enemies, and only when it is fully charged (there is a meter under your health). From the start, go left. In about the third room, you will see that there are two paths: an upper and a lower. Take the lower path, shoot the blocks at the bottom against the wall and then crawl through the tunnel. You are now in the Space Pirate's ship. Start moving left again through the next tunnel. In the next room download the map and then go in the door to your left where you can recharge your energy and save. From the save station, jump up to your left, grab the ledge and pull yourself up, then crawl through the tunnel. In the next room, jump down when the space pirate has its back turned and shoot it to stun it. Begin moving up the room quickly, shoot the next pirate you see, and go in the door at the top right. In here, jump up onto the ledge to the right side of the screen, wait for the pirate chasing you to leave, then jump down and go to the right. Go through the door into the next room. In here climb above the green laser to your right, and then go over it, in the door to your right. Quickly make your way up the next room, stunning any space pirates you see. In the next room, you will drop down one level, so quickly begin climbing again. At the top, go in the door to your left. Jump behind the wall here, wait for the space pirate to leave and the gate to rise. Now move on to the left. Soon you will have to go up into the next room. In here you will see a space ship that you can't get to, so just crawl through the passageway here. Once you get to the next room, you will drop down and there will be a door to your right. Go in there to save and recharge your health. After you save, go back into the previous room, climb to the top and move to the left and then jump down. Go in the door to your left and then shoot the floor and fall down. Go back into the previous room and fall to the bottom. Be careful of space pirates and stun them when you see them. When you get to the bottom, go into the door to your left. In here drop down a level and wait for the room to clear of space pirates so that you can move on. In the next room climb to the top and go in the door to your right. Go up to the next door and then through that room to a save station. Go into the room to your left. In here, fall to the bottom and try to avoid the lasers as you make your way up to the top left. Up here drop down to the left and go through the door. Go through this room into the next and fall down then go through the door to your right (space pirates should be chasing you now). In the next room, fall all the way to the bottom and go in the door to your left. Start running through the tunnels until you get into the Chozo Ruins area of Chozodia. In here drop to the bottom and go in the door to your left. Go through this room into the next. In the next room, jump up onto the ledge above you and wait for the pirates to stop chasing you, then go into the next room for a save station. Go through the next room, which is just a small hall, into the room after that. In here, try to avoid the lights that move around the room. Climb to the top, jump across the gap and go into the door to your right. In here fall down and go into the door to your right. Start running through the next room, shooting the blocks or crawling under them. In the next room, jump up onto the ledge above you and then shoot the wall to make it collapse. If you are being chased by space pirates, this will stop them. Now go into the door to your left. Move up this room into the next. In here, you will see a giant laser, slowly moving up and down. Run to the right side of the screen and wait for it to be blocked by the platform here. When it is, jump up to the next level. Keep going up repeating this several times, being careful not to hit the lasers and trip the alarm. Once you get to the top go in the door to your left. In this room, you are going to have to crawl through a small passageway above some space pirates. As you go across, shoot the blocks in your way, and be careful not to stay in one place for too long. At the end of the passageway, drop down to the next area and go through to the next room. When you enter, go to the left into the next door. In the next room, you will have to take the secret passage to your left into the next room. In here, start ascending to the top of the room and go through the door. Crawl through the next room and get to the top of the room after that and go through the door here. In this room, drop down and hide here to wait for the space pirate chasing you to leave. Go to the top of the room and in the door to your left to save and recharge your energy. From here go back into the previous room, into the door at your right. You may have noticed that the last time you were in here there was a power bomb expansion that is now gone. Go to your right and up this room to see a Space Pirate carrying the upgrade away! Go after him! In the next room there is another laser puzzle to solve. Go to the pit area to the right and wait for the laser to reach the bottom of the screen, then jump down to the platform below. There is another laser here. When this one reaches the bottom of the screen, jump down onto the platform below and crawl through the tunnel to your right. More lasers. Wait for this one to get to the top of the screen then go up. When the laser starts to come down again and is blocked by the platform above you, go to the left side of the platform and jump up there. Now jump up into the next room. In here, just run across the room through the door on the other side. You will be spotted by space pirates, but don't worry. Go up in the next room, through the passageway above you. Crawl through this room into the next. In here, drop down to the bottom and run to the left. Now start to go up the blocks here. At the top, start going right, shooting the first two blocks in your way. When you get to the end, jump to the right, turn around, and shoot the last block to your left to make all the space pirates following you fall. Wait up here until the gate opens and you can go into the next room for a save station. In the next room, go to the top of the room and then go in the door to your left. After a cut-scene, a boss fight will start. See the Bosses section for help beating it. Once you beat it you will get your suit back! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ FULLY POWERED SUIT COLLECTED ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ In addition to getting your suit back, you will now find out what the mystery items from earlier were. The plasma beam, the gravity suit, and the space jump. And with that, this chapter ends... ================================ G. Upgrading and Tank Collecting ================================ This part of the game deserves its own chapter, just because it is pretty long and doesn't belong with the Chozodia stuff (well most of it doesn't). From where you are now space jump to the top of the room and go through the passageway here. Once you drop down into the next room, shoot the space pirates with a single shot to take them out. Go to the bottom left of this room and right next to the door you should see a bridge. Use a missile on the bridge and drop down. At the bottom go all the way up against the left wall, then start running right for a speed boost. Break through the blocks at the end and grab a [SUPER MISSILE (12) EXPANSION]. Now shoot the blocks above you and go up there. Climb to the top of this room and go in the door to your right. Use screw attack on the blocks in here and drop down to the platform below you. Use a missile on the wall here and go into morph ball to roll through the passageway. At the end of the passage will be a [MISSILE (220) EXPANSION]. Now go on in the passage and fall down. Go down and to the left at the bottom left of the screen. Start running right, building up a speed boost. When you get to the end, crouch to save your boost, then stand and jump up to the ledge above you. Do a horizontal shinespark left and crouch when you start running. Stand and space jump up to the next ledge and do a horizontal shinespark right and crouch when you start to run. Stand and space jump up to the top. Do a horizontal shinespark here to the right, and when you get into the next room crouch. Stand and break through the blocks again then fall down to the ledge right under you. Horizontal shinespark to the left and crouch then stand, then jump down to the right and when you land on the platform, do a horizontal shinespark to the right. You should now fly through several rooms, right into an [ENERGY (10) TANK]. Go all the way to the left wall, and then start running right to build up a speed boost. Do a horizontal shinespark to your left to go all the way back to the vertical room. Drop down to the bottom here, use screw attack on the wall in your way, and go in the door to your left. In here, use screw attack to break through all the blocks on the ground then fall down to the bottom of the room (the lava won't hurt you). Go into morph ball and go to the bottom right, through the tunnel and up into the next. Jump up in this tunnel to grab a [SUPER MISSILE (14) EXPANSION]. Go back out of the tunnel and into the large lava area. Start moving left and then up to get over the wall here and into the morph ball passage. In the next room, drop down one level and wait for the gate to move, then go in the room to your right. Bomb the blocks in here, killing any space pirates you see. Stand on the ledge closest to the bottom here and shoot a missile to your left to blow open a hole in the wall reveal a now easily obtained [SUPER MISSILE (16) EXPANSION]. Go in the passage to your left, through the next room and the room after that. Drop down to the bottom in this room and go through the door here. Save if you want then move on through the next couple rooms. When you can't go right anymore, space jump to the top of the room and go in the door to your right up here. Go through all the rooms to your right, into the vertical room, and climb to the top in here, then go through the morph ball passage into the next room. Go through this room too. In the next room, you will see a black space pirate. Ignore it and go into the next room. In here, just space jump all the way to the other side of the room and go in the door there. Save in this room if you want (or take out the space pirates, leave the room and come back to save if you want). Go into the next room, bomb the wall and go into the door after that. In here, use screw attack on the ceiling to go up into a secret area. Go up again and take out the space pirates. Shoot the ceiling here and use a missile on the cracked area on the ceiling, then jump up there. There is a creature here that you have never seen before. Roll under the small morph ball area and shoot the enemy with missiles to get it to back away, then jump up to the ledge above and get the [SUPER MISSILE (18) EXPANSION]. Jump back down and go in the missile locked door. Go to the top of this room and go in the super missile locked door. Bomb the blocks in here and fall to the bottom. Space jump back up to the top and grab a [SUPER MISSILE (20) EXPANSION]. Go back to the previous room, drop down and go in the door to your right. Go in the door to the right here too. In the next room is another black space pirate. Ignore it, climbing to the top of the room. Go in the missile locked door near the top. Climb to the top of this room and go into the morph ball passage up here, which will lead you back to the previous room. Go across this room ignoring the space pirates. Make your way through the next room, going to the left and in the door here. Drop down to the bottom, killing any space pirates you see, and go in the door to your left. Go through the next room using morph ball, bombing the blocks as you go along. When you get to the end go in the door to your left. In the next room, make your way to the top killing the space pirates you see. When you get to the top go in the door here. In the next room, run across and use screw attack on the enemies. At the end just fall down and go in the next room. Make your way to the top of this room and go in the door here. In the next room, go through the small morph ball passage and then go to the left. When you are all the way at the left, you will fall into a secret passage. Take this down to the bottom. At the bottom you will meet our old friend the power bomb thief. Bomb the ground you are on and fall down, then go after him. Go into the next room, go through the lasers and grab your first [POWER BOMB (2) EXPANSION]. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ POWER BOMBS COLLECTED ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Lay a power bomb here to open the yellow hatch and then go through. In this room lay another power bomb and then space jump to the top of the room to get another [POWER BOMB (4) EXPANSION]. Now go all the way back to the room where you first entered the secret passage. Go to the top of the room and go in the door. In the next room there is a secret passage in the ceiling up against the first wall, so space jump up there. Go on through the passage, into the next room. In here go to the right of the room. Now start running to the left, build up a speed boost and jump to destroy the bridge by the door where you walked in. Now THIS is one of the most annoying items to get ever! There are lasers everywhere and you must avoid all of them or you will have to exit this room and do everything all over again. Space jump across the area and when you finally get it right, claim your prize, an [ENERGY (11) TANK]. Now go all the way back to the room where you found the passage leading to the power bombs. Go in the door right under the one you just came from and go through the next room to get to a save station. I recommend saving your game here. From here, make your way all the way back to the map room in Chozodia. Getting there is pretty straightforward, so I won't explain it. In the room after the map room, you should see a crack in the ceiling (near the end of the room). Shoot the crack with a missile to get a [SUPER MISSILE (22) EXPANSION]. Now go through the door to your right. Make your way back to the room after the crash site and go to the upper left area of the room. Lay a power bomb here to reveal a [POWER BOMB (6) EXPANSION]. From here go to the upper second save station in Chozodia (looking on the map, going from right to left, it is the second one over on the top, not the one under it). Again this is pretty straightforward and needs no explanation. From here, go through the different rooms to your (start by going left from the save station), until you get to the tall vertical room. Fall down to the bottom in here and go in the door to your left down here. You should be in the room with the glass tunnel. Use a power bomb in the tunnel and it will explode. Fall down here. First go down to the bottom right of this room. Now lay a power bomb here to open a secret passage. Run through into the tall vertical room and space jump to the top to get a [POWER BOMB (8) EXPANSION]. Now go back into the glass tunnel room. Now go to the bottom left area and lay a power bomb, revealing a tunnel for you to go through. Drop down there. When you get to the very bottom of the vertical room you are now in, you can go right to save the game, or left. For now lets go left. In here, kill all the enemies, then go to the left side of the room. When you are standing next to the door, start to run to the right and shoot the door open when you get there. In the next room when your speed boost is built up, crouch down, walk to the middle of the room, and do a straight shinespark to the top. A couple rooms later you will hit the final [ENERGY (12) TANK]. From where you are now, go left and start making your way towards the room where you got your suit back (should be marked on your map with a symbol). Again, there is no need for explanation of how to get there, other than use power bombs when your path is blocked. When you get to the tall vertical hallway which is a little before the room where you got your suit back, start to make your way up. When you get to a point where there is a morph ball tunnel to your left, go there, lay a power bomb and go in the tunnel. You should have been in this room before. In here, there is a lower path (where you enter), a middle path, and a high path. Go in the high path, go all the way to the right, kill the pirate here and then shoot a missile at the ceiling. Jump up here and pull yourself up the ledge to grab a [POWER BOMB (10) EXPANSION]. From here go all the way back to the glass tunnel room again. Go down to the bottom left again, drop down the passageway and go to the save station. Make your way left through the different room. When you get to a small hallway room, stand in the middle and just straight up. You should now be in a secret passage. Go to the left in the passage, then go up and to the right, the up and left. Lay a bomb here and grab a [SUPER MISSILE (24) EXPANSION]. Now go back into the small hallway and go in the door to your left. In this room, walk in and start shooting the ceiling while running left. This should show you where some bomb-able blocks are. So start by bombing the one on the bottom, then jump up there. Go all the way to the right and lay a bomb here, then go up. When you get up here, start laying bombs everywhere until a new path is revealed (should be on the left side of this passage). Go up there and lay another bomb to reveal another [SUPER MISSILE (26) EXPANSION]. Go all the way out of the tunnel and in the door to your left. In the next room is a passage that leads to Crateria, so go on through. ======== Crateria ======== The first thing you will see here is a power bomb door (yellow), so open it and go through. In this room, go all the way to the left in the water. When you get to where the water ends, shoot the block next to you. Now shoot the wall to your left, then shoot the ground under you. Shoot through the final area and drop down into a new area in this room. Shoot the wall to your left here and grab a [MISSILE (225) EXPANSION]. Go back into the main part of the room and go through the area at the top into the next room. In the next room, make your way up to the top and to the right. When you are in the top right corner, you will see a super missile expansion. Drop down a level and go in the power bomb door here. Run to the end of the hallway. You are now in Chozodia again. Drop down to the bottom of the room and shoot the wall to your left (you may have to aim with L). You will see a power bomb expansion. Shoot a missile where the power bomb is and you will destroy the block there. Climb in and get the [POWER BOMB (12) EXPANSION]. Go to the top of this room and start running left. Shoot open the door in Crateria and move on. In the next room, save your shinespark by crouching, then jump to the platform below you. Go into morph ball and do a morph ball shinespark to the left. Keep holding left when you do to avoid falling on the blocks. If you held left the whole time, you will go directly to a [MISSILE (230) EXPANSION]. Now go back to the hallway in Chozodia that you just came from. When you get to the end, turn around and start running left again. When you go through the door in Crateria, crouch to save your shinespark, then space jump up to the ledge above you. Quickly do a shinespark to the right to run into a [SUPER MISSILE (28) EXPANSION]. If you can, quickly crouch, run to the left a little and then do a shinespark to the left. If not then space jump all the way to the left. Go in the door here. Make your way back to the original landing site (not the crash site in Chozodia). Once you are here, drop to the bottom and go in the door to your right. Keep going right until you get to the elevator room. In here, go past the elevator and lay a power bomb. Now go through the door to your right. Start running left again through the door. Run through the elevator room into the next. In here, go into morph ball, roll up against the left wall and lay a power bomb quickly. Right before the power bomb explodes, start your ball shinespark to the left. If done correctly, the door should have been blown open and you will just go through into the landing site area. Press down when you get in here to save your shinespark. Roll just to the left of a small hill in front of you (not the wall in front of you, the small hill). Now do a morph ball shinespark up and to the left. If done right, you will be launched through a bunch of blocks near the top of the room. Lay a power bomb here to open a passageway for you to go through to get a [POWER BOMB (14) EXPANSION]. Now go back to the elevator room and take the elevator down to Norfair. ======= Norfair ======= Go all the way to the room before the map room (no explanation needed of how to get there, just look at your map). In here, go in the door right across from the map room. Go all the way through this room and the next. Go through the super missile door into the next room. Make your way through this room and into the next. In here, shoot the floor and drop down into the hologram lava, then go in the door here. Make your way to the left in this room to reach the last of the [SUPER MISSILE (30) EXPANSION]s. Now space jump to the left to break some blocks. Climb up there and blow up the blocks with some morph ball bombs. Go through this area to reach a [MISSILE (235) EXPANSION]. Make your way all the way back to the room before the map room. In here drop down to the very bottom of the room, through the hologram lava and into the real lava (which will not hurt you). Use missile on the floor here (bomb it first to find out where to use missiles), then jump down and go into the next room. In here jump up to the ledge to your left. Use missiles on the wall here (again, bomb to find out where to shoot them), then go through. Space jump to the top of this area to grab a [POWER BOMB (16) EXPANSION]. Go back to the door in this room. Jump up to where you see the morph ball passage and go in there. Bomb the ground under the missile expansion, then shoot a missile straight up. Start bombing and shooting the ground around here then go back up to the passage. This time jump in morph ball to grab the [MISSILE (240) EXPANSION]. Make your way all the way to Brinstar. ======== Brinstar ======== In Brinstar, just go to the elevator that leads to Kraid and take it down. ===== Kraid ===== When you arrive in Kraid, go in the door under the save station. Go to the left side of the room, in one of the lava pits, then bomb the floor. Fall to the bottom of this area. Go against the left wall and start running right to build up a speed boost. When it is charged, crouch down, turn around and run to the other side of the ramp. Go into morph ball and do a ball shinespark to the right, holding right. If you keep holding it, you will go right into a [MISSILE (245) EXPANSION]. Now go back to Brinstar. ======== Brinstar ======== All we have to do in Brinstar, is go to Tourian, so go ahead. ======= Tourian ======= Go all the way to exactly where the Mother Brain was. Bomb the platform the Mother Brain used to be on to find a super missile block. Shoot the block (with a super missile of course) and jump down there to get a [POWER BOMB (18) EXPANSION]. Now go back to the room after the save station. Start charging a speed boost and when you reach the end of the room, jump through the door (sometimes above it) and into the next room. Keep using screw attack through this room, dodging all the pillars and objects hanging from the ceiling. Go through a space above the door in this room. Keep using screw attack in the next room, all the way through the wall to the left. In here shoot the ground (or use a power bomb if your lazy) to find the last upgrade in the game, a [MISSILE (250) EXPANSION]. Now take the elevator back to Crateria. ======== Crateria ======== In Crateria, go to the area where on the map you can see two doors leading to Chozodia. Take the lower door. =================== H. The Final Battle =================== ======== Chozodia ======== From where you are now, make your way to the room before where you got the first power bombs. Not hard at all, so just go there. I strongly recommend/command you go in the save room near here. Now go back to the main room and up through the door at the top. Go through this room into the next, and through that into a small room. In here, start by shooting all over the wall in your way, then climb into the passage here. Lay a several bombs/one power bomb to clear all the blocks in your path and go on through the door... As soon as you enter this room, you will be ambushed by none other than Mecha Ridley! See the bosses section for how to beat him. When you are finished with Mecha Ridley, you will have to evacuate. No needed notes, other than you must evacuate to the yellow ship marked on your map. Remember, power bombs are your friends. When you get to the end you will have to take out two black space pirates. To kill them, give them a couple charged shots to the face. After they die, go on through the gate to the escape pod. Now enjoy one of the 100% endings! Congratulations! ============================================================================= 7. Bosses and Mini-Bosses ============================================================================= ============== Burrowing Worm ============== This boss is very easy. For beating him just watch out for the spikes he shoots at you and dodge when he lunges at you. When he opens his eye on the ceiling shoot a missile up into it. If the spikes come towards you just shoot them and you could get either energy or missiles back. The first time you beat him he will leave. The second time he will drop the Charge Shot upgrade. You can defeat him on the first meeting, but it requires much speed. =================== (n00b) Acid Crawler =================== It is called the "n00b" acid crawler, only because many people have been getting stuck here (like the "n00b" bridge in Super Metroid). When the worm starts to jump out of the acid to attack you, jump up on the zip line and go across. If you get caught it will pull you into the acid and you will take damage until you jump out. Keep grabbing the zip line to avoid it. If you dodge its attack the worm will get stuck. If this happens turn towards it and chug missiles into its eyes. The only other attacks it has is to make the acid rise and to shoot stuff out of its mouth at you. To avoid the acid just jump on one of the upper platforms until the lava goes down. It will only shoot things at you if you move too far to the right or left. The things it shoots can be destroyed by shooting them. Repeat the steps to damage it until dead. ===== Kraid ===== At the start of the battle he will have his mouth open. Jump up and start shooting missiles in his mouth. Once his mouth is closed, you will have to shoot the large eye on his head, which will make him open his mouth, giving you time to shoot missiles in. Soon he will knock down part of the wall behind you so that there is just one platform for you to stand on. Repeat the above steps on the platform. After a while more he will destroy the platform, and you will have to jump up on his spikes that he shoots out of his stomach, and once you get to the top start shooting there, then hang on the ledge above the door until he dies. Occasionally he will try to slash you will his claws. Just jump over that to avoid it. Shoot the claw-looking spikes he throws at you to get missiles/health. If you fall at any point you will have to jump up the spikes he shoots out of his stomach. This battle might take a while, and you might run out of missiles, but it shouldn't be too hard. ============ Hanging Sack ============ When you start the fight, you will see a lone enemy (ripper) and the mini-boss hanging from the ceiling. Wait for the enemy to move to one side of the room, up against a wall. Freeze it and then jump on it. Up here you will see that the plant is being held by vines. Jump and use a missile on the vine to damage it. Do this two or three times, then refreeze the enemy you are standing on. Keep using missiles until you reach the core of the vines. From here you will have to jump off the enemy, wait for it to unfreeze, wait for it to move to the other side of the room, refreeze it, and repeat the above steps. Eventually the plant will fall through the floor, meaning you've killed it. The only attack the plant has is to fire spores at you. Just shoot these to get either health or missiles back. This mini-boss is very easy though, and only requires patients. ============== Giant War Wasp ============== For this boss, you will want to use missiles to attack it, and normal shots to destroy the stingers it launches at you. We have a strategy that was posted on the Metroid: Zero Mission forums by Kaleb.G, so without any further ado... Kaleb.G wrote: In Ridley, there is a Flying Bug Mini-Boss that you must fight in order to acquire the Super Missiles. I have found a strategy that allows you to avoid taking any damage, by simply staying in a single spot. This makes things a lot easier when going for a low percentage. All you have to do is find the area near the door to the far right where there are three tall mushrooms growing out of the ground. Stand in the exact spot as the mushrooms, and crouch down, facing left. Then, as the bug flies towards you, keep shooting your beam straight ahead (not angled). This will hit the stinger it launches in the path of your beam every time, thus giving you missiles and sometimes health (note that if the flying bug is still in its original color, it will only launch stingers if you have no missiles remaining). Run over to the item, grab it, and run back to the original position. Stay crouched in the mushrooms. Now, as the bug flies back down and to the left, angle your gun up and to the left, and ready your missiles to launch a few at its hindside as it passes by. Just repeat this enough, and it'll finally go down. Remember to head over to the Super Missile after it has sustained fatal damage so that it will crash into the muck and clear the path for you to pick up the Super Missile. ====== Ridley ====== Alright, Ridley is a joke in Zero Mission. Run around chugging missiles and super missiles at him (which can be very useful) or use charge shots. You can hit him anywhere but his tail to damage him. The only attacks he has is to shoot fireballs, which can be destroyed with the beam or just dodged, to hit you with his tail, which also can be dodged, and to pick you up. If he picks you up, start using super missiles, or normal missiles on him and he will drop you. Although he is very easy, he is still very fun to kill. ================ The Mother Brain ================ This can be a very annoying boss. When you enter the room, you will have to break the glass tubes with several missiles in a row. Do this several times to get to the Mother Brain itself. Once here, shoot the glass casing it is in with missile after missile. When the glass breaks the Mother Brain will start to shoot lasers at you. Jump over these with screw attack, then land on the platform you were just on, and fire a Super Missile into its eye. You will have to repeat this several times. You must constantly be alert here also for the other things that are flying around the room. If you get knocked into the lava, hold the jump button until you can pull yourself up on the platform. Once the Mother Brain is dead (for this game at least...), you will have to evacuate. ============ Chozo Mirror ============ This is a very interesting boss. A orb will be moving around the room with Samus inside it. You will have to run around dodging as the orb moves around the room. When the symbol appears on the orb, shoot it. If you shoot it while Samus is on the orb, you will take damage. Avoid the lightning that will be shot out sometimes. Also avoid the orb when it is flying around the room. After you bring it down you get your suit back with a few surprises... ============ Mecha Ridley ============ This boss can be very annoying if not battled correctly. His main tactic is to swipe at you with his hand. To avoid this, just jump up to the top left of the screen and keep space jumping there. After he slashes at you, fall down and shoot a super missile at the glass "heart" on his chest. This will cause him to back away in pain. Sometimes you may be able to shoot two. He will also spit fireballs at you, which can be easily dodged by space jumping constantly at about mid level. After you damage him a bit, he will start to shoot lasers from his eyes, which are easily dodged. He will also try launching missiles at you which can be destroyed by shooting them or with a simple screw attack. Repeat this until he dies. ============================================================================= 8. Items and Upgrades ============================================================================= ============= A. Morph Ball ============= Morph Ball - This item is useful for getting through small areas. It can also use bombs and power bombs once you get them. Press Down twice to enter morph ball mode. Bombs - Bombs used for blowing up blocks and enemies. Great for finding secret areas. Used in such techniques as the Bomb Jump, the Infinite Bomb Jump, and the Horizontal Bomb Jump. Press B to use in Morph Ball mode. They take a second to explode. Power Bombs - Hold R and press B to use. Large explosions used for opening yellow doors and blowing away multiple blocks. Great for clearing a room full of enemies. Also used to destroy power bomb blocks. These are on a timer, and have a set time longer than normal bombs to explode. Maximum number of power bombs can be expanded two at a time through power bomb expansions/tanks. ============= B. Arm Cannon ============= Beam - Basic weapon. Press B to fire. See controls for other info on firing. Long Beam - Extends how far your beam goes. Very useful for hitting enemies at long range. Charge Beam - Hold B to charge up beam, release to fire. Does larger amounts of damage than normal beams. Ice Beam - Used to freeze enemies. Frozen enemies can be used as platforms temporarily. Does more damage than normal beam. Wave Beam - Shoots multiple beams at once. Does more damage than Ice Beam. It can still freeze enemies and even goes through walls. Plasma Beam - First found as unknown item in Crateria. Does more damage than Wave Beam. In addition to being able to freeze enemies, shoot multiple beams, and go through walls, it can now penetrate multiple enemies. Missile Launcher - Used to fire missiles. Hold R and press B to fire. Can destroy missile blocks and does great damage to enemies. Maximum missile capacity can be expanded by five at a time by finding missile expansions/tanks. Used to open red doors. Super Missiles - Has the effect of five missiles. Used to destroy super missile blocks. Does great amounts of damage to enemies, usually only necessary on bosses. Press select to switch between normal missiles and super missiles. Maximum number of super missiles can be expanded by two at a time through super missile expansions/tanks. Used to open green doors. ================= C. Suit Upgrades ================= Power Suit - The basic suit that you start the game with. Varia Suit - The next suit upgrade. You now have resistance to super heated rooms and some lava. Damage taken from enemies is cut. Gravity Suit - First found as unknown item in Ridley. The final suit upgrade, it cuts enemy damage even more. You now have free movement in water and lava, and full resistance to all lava. ========================= D. Miscellaneous Upgrades ========================= Power Grip - Used to hang from ledges. You can shoot while hanging, jump to another ledge, or pull yourself up onto that ledge. Speed Booster - Used to run at high speed of course. You must first charge it by running (without jumping, stopping, or running into anything). Can be used to break speed boost blocks. Can do shinesparks with this. See the special techniques section for more info on it. Hi-Jump - The name is pretty self explanatory. You can now jump higher and farther. You can also jump in morph ball mode now, which will allow you to do morph ball shinesparks. Space Jump - First found as unknown item in Kraid. You can now somersault continuously in the air. Just keep pressing jump while somersaulting. Screw Attack - This continues to be one of the most useful items in the Metroid series. Do a somersault and it will automatically activate. If you hit an enemy it will die (with few exceptions, including all bosses). Can be used to break screw attack blocks. Stun Pistol - You only have this for a short time in the game, while you are playing as Samus without her suit. It is only good for stunning enemies, when it is fully charged. It charges automatically, unlike the charge beam. ============================================================================= 9. Tank Checklist ============================================================================= This section is here only for your convenience. For example, if you can't get a certain upgrade but you want to get it later to complete the game 100%, just use the checklist and don't check that item off. Or if you get an item out of the order it is listed in the guide you can just check it off for reference. I will not be explaining how to get each upgrade in this section, since it is already listed in the walkthrough. The numbers in this section, match the numbers in the guide. =============== A. Sequence Breaks ============================================================================= Throughout the entire game, there are many opportunities to sequence break. I will rate how useful the sequence breaks are too (on a scale of 1 to 5, 5 being the best). For now I am just adding a couple, but there will probably be more later. ================ Varia Suit Early ================ Requirements: Morph Ball, Bombs, Good IBJing/HBJing skills Area: Brinstar Difficulty: 4 Usefulness: 4 How to Accomplish: This trick like most requires many IBJs, so if you can't do them, I suggest you don't try this (although you can if you want). Once you get the morph ball bombs, go into the vertical room with the rippers (brown enemies that move back and forth) before the bombs. IBJ all the way to the top of this room and go in the door here. Make your way through the next couple rooms (picking up a missile tank if you want) until you get to a save station. I suggest you save, just in case you mess up (which you probably will). In the next room, shoot the ceiling, then quickly go into morph ball. IBJ your way to the ledge all the way up. By this I am not saying go on the ceiling of the room, I mean go to the ledge near the top left of the room. On here, shoot the blocks above you, then IBJ your way up to the next level and go in the door to your left. In here wait for the parasites to kill the orange plant things, then move on. Stand on the small ledge next to the acid, then IBJ up to the ledge above you. Use bombs to jump across the small gaps (or if you fall, IBJ back up) until you get to the end, then fall down to the platform below. Here jump to the next platform, then very quickly jump to the next platform, go into morph ball, then IBJ up to the platform above you. Make your way to the left until you see some blocks that must be bombed. Bomb them, then wait for the parasites to feast on the plant. Move on into the next room and claim your prize! ================== Screw Attack Early ================== Requirements: Morph Ball, Bombs, Missiles Area: Norfair Difficulty: 1.5 Usefulness: 5 How to Accomplish: This trick is very simple. In Norfair, go all the way to the "vertical" room (really several rooms stacked) where you use the ball launcher to get to the screw attack. Go to the top of this room and save before attempting the trick. Now go to the left. In here, shoot four missiles at ceiling, all the way to the left of the room. Now IBJ up here. Go in the door to your left and go in the next room to get the Screw Attack! *NOTE TO LOW PERCENT RUNNERS- This can be done with only two missiles, it just requires that you enter the room with two missiles, shoot the ceiling, kill a nearby enemy and grab the missiles it drops (if it drops any), then continue to shoot the ceiling. ============================================================================= 12.
