Walkthrough ***BRINSTAR*** ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Current percentage: 0% Items Collected: None Once you've started a new game, wait as you see Samus appear before your eyes. Once the classic Brinstar music begins, you're free to move around. Begin by walking to the left. You'll come before a stair formation. Jump up and over it. On the other side, you'll see the first upgrade of the game, the Morph Ball. Simply touch it to aquire it. Remember, to use the morph ball, tap DOWN twice. Use your new found ability to roll under the stairs you just recently climbed. Now, proceed over the starting area, and continue right until you reach a blue door. Shoot it once to open it. Proceed through. In this next room, just jump over the line of blocks and continue on through the right. In this next room, keep going right until you reach a wall. Morph ball under it, and then jump up onto the ledge and go through the door. Now you should be in a long vertical corridor. Climb up the ledges until you see a door on the right. Go through it once you reach it. NOTE: Don't bother shooting the floating enemies that bounce off of the walls. They are invulnerable to your arsenal. Proceed through the gray block tunnel and go through another door. Now you should be in another vertical shaft. However, this time it is orange. Travel down through the corridor until you see a door on your right. Go through it. Continue through this room, avoiding or shooting the enemies flying from the red plates. Soon, you'll come to a sand pit. Perched atop of a pole in the center is the first missile expansion pack. To us missiles, press SELECT to switch to missiles, and fire as normal. Collect it, and continue onwards towards the right, and then go through the door. Now you've reached the elevator to Norfair. Stand on it, and the press DOWN to travel into Norfair. ***NORFAIR*** ^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Current Percentage: 5% Items Collected: Morph Ball, Missiles (1) Once the elevator has landed, go to the bottom of the room. Go through the door to the left. Travel through this room, while being sure to avoid the rocks being shot out at you from the ground. Try to keep out of the lava too. =P You'll soon approach an area with white blocks, and another missile expansion in the center. Grab it, and return to the room with the elevator that you used. Climb up this room, and stand upon the elevator. This time, press UP to travel back to Brinstar. ***BRINSTAR*** ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Current Percentage: 7.5% Items Collected: Morph Ball, Missiles (2) Now that you've reached Brinstar again, make your way back to the orange vertical shaft. Ascend the shaft until you see a door on the left. Go through it, walk through the gray block tunnel, and then go through the door at the end to reach the first vertical shaft. Climb the corridor until you reach a door on the left, which you should go through. You should now be on a blue ledge. Proceed through this room, killing enemies along the way. At the end of the path, you'll come to a red door. Switch to missiles, and fire five rounds at the door. It will then open, allowing for you to continue on to the next room. Once inside, shoot the ball that is being held by the Chozo Statue. This will reveal the Long Beam, which will allow your beam weapon to fire to the boundaries of the screen. Collect it, and backtrack all the way back to the orange vertical shaft (I'm guessing you know your way by now). Now that you're here, go through the door directly in front of you. Be careful, for this area is completely covered in quicksand. Touching it rapidly depletes your energy tanks. Proceed through this room, go through the door at the end, navigate this straight corridor until you reach its door, and go through it. This room is as useless as the last, so just do as you did last time, which was basically going through the door at the end, going through a little hallway, and then going through the door at its end. Now you're in a useful room. As you go through it, you'll notice a box with a large "E" inscribed on it. This increases your maximum energy by 100 (represented by a box above the energy ammount). Acquire it, and go through the door at the end of the room. You should be in another vertical shaft. Ascend it until you see a door on the left. Once through it, proceed through the room. It's very similar to the room preceeding the Long Beam, so this shouldn't be a problem. The door at the end is another red door, so blast it with five missiles, and enter. Shoot the ball that the Chozo Statue is holding and collect the Bombs. The bombs can be used by entire morph ball mode and pressing B. Using these, you can break some obstacles and do miniature jumps while in ball form. Make your way back to the original orange vertical shaft. Climb upwards until you reach a door on your right. Go through it, and procede through the room. When you come to a block impeding your progress, simply roll into a ball and bomb it. Once it's out of the way, you're free to pass by. You'll now notice four white tunnels that your morph ball can fit through. Take the uppermost path, being sure to only bomb enemies while above solid ground, and not breakable blocks. Make your way to the door at the end, and go through it. Go through the door at the end of this small corridor. Go through the narrow areas, and soon you'll notice another missile expansion sitting atop of a pole. Grab it. Continue on to the right until you reach what seems like a dead end. Stand right up against the wall and fire straight up at the ceiling, clearing out blocks. Keep shooting until no more block will break. Now, jump up and hold RIGHT to go into a passage hidden within the wall. Walk to the right and soon you'll fall into a room with an enemy. Kill it. Here's where going on gets a bit tricky. In this small room, roll into a ball, and place yourself up against the right wall. Now, start mashing the bomb button while holding RIGHT. You should eventually make it into the small passageway two blocks above you. Roll through this passage, and you'll drop into an area with an energy tank to your right. Take it. Continue along to the right, and go through the door at the end. You'll find yourself back in the vertical shaft that led to the morph ball. Descend the shaft and go through the bottom-most door on the left. Return to the original orange shaft through this familiar sand passage. Drop all the way down this shaft and go through the door you find on your right. Head all the way through this are until you reach a room with an elevator. Go down it and into Norfair. ***NORFAIR*** ^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Current Percentage: 20% Items Collected: Morph Ball, Morph Ball Bombs, Long Beam, Missiles (3), Energy Tanks (2) Ahh, back in the depths of Norfair. Go through the door on the bottom right. You'll be in a room filled with lava. Carefully navigate the white platforms. Soon, you'll come to an area with breakable blocks hovering over the lava. It's very simple to jump over the first one. Once you get onto the platform after it, you'll notice another collumn of breakable blocks that are hanging down from the ceiling. Shoot at the blocks to make them dissappear. Before they reappear, jump over onto the next platform. Continue to navigate the white platforms, and proceed through the door at the end. You'll find yourself in another vertical shaft with walls made of purple bubbles. Fall to the bottom of this shaft. Go near the right wall, but not up against it. Place bombs around this area. You should see an opening reveal itself. Fall through it. Once you've been stopped, lay another bomb. This will clear the path a bit more. Do this as many times as necessary until you reach a ledge. Now you're in another part of this vertical shaft. Descend the shaft and go through the first door you see on your left. You should be in another room filled with lava and dragons (or some sort of reptile) shooting fireballs at you from the lava. Do your best to avoid their projectiles as you navigate the platforms to reach the other side of the room. Blast open the red door with five missiles and enter it. Shoot the ball held by the Chozo Statue to reveal the High Jump Boots. Collect them. They allow you to jump nearly twice as high as you could before! Leave the room all the way back into the vertical shaft outside the lava filled room. Climb back to the top of this area until you are on the ledge under where you had to use your bombs. This time, point your gun upwards and shoot at the blocks to clear the path. If you try to jump up through the path, you'll notice that you can't reach it yet. No worries. Just jump up there repeatedly, and if you're lucky, the blocks will reappear while you are overtop of them, turning them into solid walking ground. Use this technique to get out of the wall and through the floor. Now that you're back in this section of the vertical shaft, climb up it as far as you can. You should pass three doors on the way. Go through the fourth door, which should be just under the ceiling an on your left. Continue on through this simple room, and soon you'll see a platform with a missile expansion on it. Grab it, and continue to the left. Soon, you'll see another missile expansion. Grab it too. Keep going to the left. You'll see yet ANOTHER missile expansion sitting atop a platform. Grab it also. You're done with this room, so exit it the way to came in. Once outside of the room, you should be right under the ceiling. Jump to the upper-right-most ledge. Now, shoot up at the ceiling. If you've shot at the right place, you'll reveal that the ceiling's blocks are breakable. Use the same technique used earlier to get up through the wall and out of the floor. Go through the only door you find in this area. You should be in another lava filled area. Cross a few platforms, and you'll find a missile expansion. Collect it, and proceed to the left. You'll find another missile expansion, which you should also collect. Now, press yourself up against the wall to your left. Roll into a ball and lay some bombs. The floor below you should disipate. Roll to the left. Whenever you're faced with a solid wall, bomb it to make it disappear. Once you're out of the passage, continue to the left, shoot the door, and go through it. Fall to the bottom of this new vertical shaft. Go through the door on the right at the bottom. Go up against the right wall, morph into a ball, and bomb the wall. Keep doing so and you should be able to roll into a room with another Chozo Statue in it. Shoot the ball it's holding to reveal the Ice Beam. Get it. Blast the red door to your right open with five missiles and go through it. This room may take some speed, and a bit of health. Your goal here is to cross the lava filled with fire spitting serpeants, get to the right wall, shoot at it to reveal a ball path, and bomb jump into it. It's a bit tricky to get into it with low health, since the serpeants seem to have perfect accuracy. Once you've made it into the wall, bomb through the obstacles in your way. You should eventually fall out onto a white platform above the lava. Go through the door to the right. You could get more stuff in Norfair first, but there's a very important item in Brinstar that you should get now. To get there, first descend down the shaft and go through the next door you see on your left. Proceed through this entire room, and go through the door and its end. You're now back in the elevator room. Travel to the top of it, and hop onto the elevator for transport to Brinstar. ***BRINSTAR*** ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Current Percentage: 37.5% Items Collected: Morph Ball, Morph Ball Bombs, Long Beam, Ice Beam, High Jump Boots, Missiles (8), Energy Tanks (2) You'll only be here for a short time, so let's get it over with. Exit the elevator room through the door on your left. Go through this room and exit through the door at the end. Welcome back to the old orange vertical shaft. Climb to the very top of it and go through the door on the right. You've been in here before, so just go through it the way you did the first time. Remember to take the upper ball path. Once you go through the door at the end, you'll find yourself in a narrow corridor. Stand in about the center of the walkway and shoot upwards. The blocks and the ceiling should begin to disintigrate. Use the technique you used in Norfair to get to the top of this corridor. Jump up and hope that the blocks reappear before you go back through where they appear. Once you've reached the top of the path, walk along it to get an idea of what areas are solid and which aren't. Once you have an idea of where you can stand, back up, run, and jump to the door on the left. Go through it. You're back in a room similar to that of the rooms preceding the long beam and the morph ball bombs. Just walk to the left side of the room, blast the door there with five missiles, and go through the door. Shoot the ball being held by the Chozo Statue to reveal the Varia Suit. Collect it. The varia suit cuts damage almost in half! Find you way out of the varia suit's preceding hallway. To get back into the walkway, bomb the area where you had to shoot. Now make your way back to the orange vertical shaft. Descend the shaft until you see two doors adjacent to each other. Go through the one on the left. Cross through the gray stone walkway and go through the door at the end. You'll be in the first vertical shaft that you encountered. Descend it all the way to the bottom, and go through the door on the left. Roll under the wall you see, and stand up just as soon as you can. Start shooting at the ceiling. About a block or two from the large wall, you'll uncover an energy tank. You should also see one of those enemies that just hangs on the ceiling and then dives at you. Slowly walk towards it, and it'll dive. Now, with your ice beam, you must shoot it when it is horizontally closest to the energy tank. Once you've succeeded in doing this, jump onto the now frozen enemy. Use it as a stepping stone to jump up and grab the energy tank. Now leave this room the way you came in. Go back up the vertical shaft and through the first door you encounter on your right. Return to the original orange vertical shaft. Go to the bottom of it, and go through the door you find there. Navigate this room to get to the elevator room. Once inside, ride the elevator down to Norfair. ***NORFAIR*** ^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Current Percentage: 42.5% Items Collected: Morph Ball, Morph Ball Bombs, Long Beam, Ice Beam, High Jump Boots, Varia Suit, Missiles (8), Energy Tanks (3) Now that you're back in Norfair, head to the bottom of the elevator room, and through the door on the left. Continue on to the left until you reach a purple bubble wall. Get into morph ball form and roll left into the wall, bombing obstacles as you go. Once you've escaped the wall, proceed through the door you find on the left. Drop to the bottom of this shaft. Go to through the door on the bottom-right. Now you're in another lava-filled room. Continue on to the right, and eventually, you'll see another missile expansion. Collect it as always. Now make your way back to the elevator room. Cross through the door on the right. Go through this room as you did before. At the end you'll find yourself back in the northeastern vertical shaft. Drop to the bottom. Go through the door you find on your left. In here, navigate the platforms and you'll come onto a long straight path with ceiling-jumping enemies and enemies flying from the ground. To easily avoid them, just freeze them. As long as one of those flying enemies is frozen, no more of them can come out of its blue plate. Continue through to the left of this room and you'll come to a bubble wall. Get right up against it and enter your ball form. Lay a bomb, and hold LEFT. You should enter a small opening. Roll through this path, bombing obstacles on your way. When you exit, you should see a few enemies including a ball and one of those enemies the goes from side to side. When the side to side enemy is touching the left wall, freeze it. Then use it as a stepping stone to make it over the wall. Once over, proceed to the left. You'll find a missile expansion. Take it. Keep going to the left and you'll find a second missile expansion. Take it also. Now backtrack all the way to the northeastern vertical shaft. Go bomb the floor near the right side of the room like you did before. Once you've gotten through the floor entirely, Start descending the shaft. Go left through the first door you see. Proceed through this lava filled area until you get to the room where you collected the High Jump Boots. In this room, you'll notice a small area where your morph ball fits. Roll into it, and then lay a bomb. A piece of the floor will disappear. Roll into where it was. Lay another bomb. The floor below you will disintigrate. Once you've dropped into where that block had been, roll left through the grayish tube and into the purple bubble area. Bomb the obstacles that get in your way. Once you've dropped into the next room, freeze one of the enemies and use it as a stepping stone to get over the wall. Repeat this step for the next wall you come accross immediately after this wall. Once you've cleared both wall, continue to the left and jump onto the miniature bubbles and use them to cross to the other side of the lava. Be sure to avoid the reptile shooting flames at you. Cross through the door that you find. Go through this small corridor and through the door at the end. In this new room, you'll see one of those ball creatures bouncing off of the walls. Freeze and/or kill it. Do the same with the rest of the enemies you find in this room. Just make your way through the door at the end of the hall. Now you should be in a green bubble area. Jump to the top of this room. Stand on the right ledge and shoot straight up at the ceiling to reveal some break-away blocks. Use the technique that you've used in the past to get through the ceiling. Once on top, go through the door you find on the left. Cross this lava filled room and use five missiles on the red door at the end. Once inside, shoot the ball being held by the Chozo Statue. Collect the Screw Attack from its grasp. To use the screw attack, perform a spin jump by jumping while moving. Now, whatever enemy you hit while in Screw Attack form dies! Exit this room the way you came and get back to the bottom of the green bubble hallway. Once back in the green bubble hallway, stand near the door on the right. Get into morph ball form and bomb the floor bellow you. After you get through the floor, enter the door on the right. In this room, you must cross a large series of rocks. Carefully do so and make your way over to the far right green bubble wall. On the closest platform, nudge yourself up against the wall in ball form. Lay a bomb, and the block bellow you will disappear. Fall through, and lay another bomb to create an opening in the wall to your right. Roll through and bomb the obstacles in your path. You should fall out onto another rock. Just jump along these rocks and you should encounter a platform. Walk along it and then make your way to the door at the end. Go through it. In this room, push yourself up against the door you just came through. Get into ball mode and lay a bomb. You can now fall through the floor. Walk into the lava. It won't hurt you at all. Shoot at the right wall from the lava and you'll see a block disappear. Walk into that area and you'll fall through. Go through the door you find on your left. In this room, you'll see two low platforms in front of you. Get onto the second. You should be now staring at a higher platform. You're going to ignore it, and go into the lava. This lava WILL hurt you, but at an extremely slow rate, since you have the varia suit. Jump while walking to make it go faster. Once you see a white block, jump onto it. Then climb up the poles and grab the energy tank. Return to the room before this one. To get out of here, jump onto the right platform. Shoot straight up near the lava to break apart a block. Now jump up and back into the lava. Then go over near the upper door and shoot out the block near it. Then jump up and go through the door. Go all the way to the left side of this room. Stand on the rock that is up high and touching the wall. Get into ball form, lay a bomb, and hold LEFT to get into the passageway. If you screw this up the first time, you'll have to wait for the rock you were just on the reappear. Once in the passage, bomb the obstacles in your way and go through the door at the far left end of the room. Walk through this area and out the door to the left. You'll be in yet another lava-filled area. Cross through to the far left end of this room, and go through the door you find there. You'll be in a vertical shaft. Walk into the lava pool in front of you. Don't worry, it won't hurt you. Walk to the left side of it, roll into a ball, and lay a bomb to clear out a block in the floor. Do so until you fall into the next section of the vertical shaft. Drop to the bottom and head through the door on the right. You're now in a room with walls made up of green circles containing red dots of varying sizes. Cross through this room until you see a large wall of breakable blocks. Shoot the ones near the top so you can walk across. Do this at the next block wall you encounter. Head through the door on the right. In here, lay some bombs near the door on the right. Keep doing so until you fall below the floor. Go through the door on the right that you find at the bottom. Head right through this room until you see a missile expansion. Grab it, and then continue onto the right. You'll see another missile expansion, so collect it. Exit this room and then get back up through the floor. Once you've gone back up through the floor, head through the door on the right. Head through this room filled with lava until the end and head through the door. In this small hallway, get up against the door you just came through. Lay a bomb, and drop through. Now fall through the fake lava. Head through the door on the left. Go through this room and shoot the door at the end with five missiles to open it. Shoot the ball being held by the Chozo Statue and collect the Wave Beam. Remember, the Wave Beam takes the place of the Ice Beam, but you need to collect it for a 100% run. It's a fairly good beam, since it can travel through walls and such. Now that you have it, go back to the last green bubble area you were in and climb back up through the floor. Go through the door on the right. In this room, shoot through the breakaway block wall to pass through it. Soon you'll come up to another block wall that is resting up against the far right wall. Shoot at the blocks near the top to get on it. On the far right, lay a bomb to clear away the block in the upper-right corner. Then lay another bomb to make an opening in the wall next to you. Then lay ANOTHER bomb to jump into the opening. Clear the obstacles with your bombs and then continue on through the room. Eventually you'll come to a missile expansion. Collect it, and then take a long sigh of relief. You've now collected every item in Norfair! Now it's time to head all the way back to Brinstar. Travel left through the rooms all the way until you reach a vertical shaft with a small lava pool in its center. Climb to the top and go onto the left upper-most platform. Shoot up to reveal some break-away blocks. Use the block-reappearing-under-feet-while-in-midair technique to get above the floor. Climb to the top of this section of the shaft and go through the door on the upper-right. Head right through these familiar rooms until you're back in the north-eastern vertical shaft with the purple bubbles. Ascend this shaft and get onto the highest platform on the right. From there, shoot up at the ceiling. Blocks will break away, so use the all too often used technique to get above the ceiling. Once above, ignore the first door you see on your left. Instead, climb up until you see another door on the left. Go through it. Proceed to the left until you reach another room filled with those purple bubbles, which is the elevator room. Climb to the top and ride the elevator up to Brinstar. ***BRINSTAR*** ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Current Percentage: 65% Items Collected: Morph Ball, Morph Ball Bombs, Long Beam, Ice Beam, Wave Beam, High Jump Boots, Varia Suit, Screw Attack, Missiles (14), Energy Tanks (4) Now that you're back in Brinstar, head left through the rooms until you reach the original orange vertical shaft. Climb up this shaft until you see a door on both your left and right. Take the door on the right. Navigate this quicksand filled room and cross through the door at the end. Go through the door at the end of small highway. Go through the door at the end of this large room. In this small corridor, lay bombs along the floor. Eventually you'll blow up one of the blocks fall through it and the quicksand. Fall to the bottom of this shaft and go through the door on the left. Go through to the end of this room and blast open the red door with five missiles and head on through it. Shoot the ball being held by the Chozo Statue and get your ice beam back from its grasp. Make your way back to the vertical shaft under the quicksand. Jump up to the top right below the quicksand. The quicksand right below the breakable block is solid. So, stand on it, shoot the block above you, jump above the floor, and head through the door on the left. Travel all the way back to the original orange vertical shaft. Once you've returned to the original orange shaft, proceed through the door directly ahead of you. Keep going until you reach the first vertical shaft that you encountered, which is blueish green. Fall to the bottom and go through the door you find there on the left. In this room, morph ball under the wall and head through the door on the left. You should now be in a room filled with breakable blocks. Morph ball under the floating platform in the center. Bomb any of the breakable blocks. Then drop to the bottom of the shaft and head through the door on the right. Go down the elevator you find here to find access into Kraid's Hideout. ***KRAID'S HIDEOUT*** ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Current Percentage: 67.5% Items Collected: Morph Ball, Morph Ball Bombs, Long Beam, Ice Beam(2), Wave Beam, High Jump Boots, Varia Suit, Screw Attack, Missiles (14), Energy Tanks (4) Descend the shaft until you see two doors across from each other. The door on the right is a red door, so shoot it with five missiles and go through it. You'll find yourself in a room covered in quickstand. Hop from platform to platform and you'll find some poles set up in a stair formation. On the highest pole, you'll find a missile expansion. Collect it. Leave this room the way you came in. Once back in the vertical shaft, head through the door directly in front of you. Make your way over to the left blue wall. Get into morph ball mode and nudge yourself up against the wall. Lay a bomb, and then hold LEFT to go into the morph ball tunnel. Bomb the obstacles in your way and you should come out onto a white block. Climb up the poles and you'll see a missile expansion. Claim it, and continue on through the rest of the room and exit through the door on the left. Drop down this shaft while hugging the right wall. Go through the door on the right that you find there. Proceed through the door at the end of this room and you'll be back at the central vertical shaft. You'll see a red door across from you. Blast it with five missiles and enter. In this room, you'll find a blue wall on the right side. Stand on the small platform that is touching the wall, face right, and fire a few shots. You should clear out a few blocks. Now, before the block reappears, get into ball form, lay a few bombs, and hold RIGHT. You should roll into the passage. Whenever the wall impedes your progress, bomb it to be allowed passage. Eventually, you should fall out into an area with an energy tank wedged in between two vertical poles. To get to it, morph ball under the small ledge to get into the quicksand. Walk through it and then jump onto the platform below the energy tank. From the platform, jump up and get the tank. To get out of here, climb up to the highest platform. Morph ball bomb jump onto the top of the rightmost pole. Then, hold LEFT to roll onto the middle and over the leftmost poles. You're now back on the left. Get onto the block sticking out of the leftmost pole. Get into morph ball form and lay a bomb. Now, move a little to the left, but so you're still on the block. When the bomb explodes, you'll be pushed to the left. While in midair, hold LEFT and you should go back into the morph ball tunnel. Bomb the obstacles and return to the central vertical shaft. Return to the room on the left, and travel all the way to the western vertical shaft with the small pool of quicksand. Jump through this quicksand and you'll fall through a very long shaft. Go through the door you find on the right here. You'll be in a blue hallway. Proceed through the door at the end. You'll be in another blue hallway. Blast the door at the end with five missiles and pass through. In this room you'll come across a missile expansion perched atop a pole. Collect it, and proceed through the door at the end of the room. You're now in another vertical shaft. Climb up until you find another door on the left. Go through it. Proceed through the door at the end of this blue hallway. In here, get onto the little block sticking out of the small wall. Morph into a ball and mash the B button while holding LEFT. You'll eventually make it over the small wall. Now get to the highest point in this room that you can. You will see those enemies that bounce off the walls above you. Shoot them with your ice beam to freeze them and use them as stepping stones. Try to freeze the third one near the right. Then jump onto the right ledge. You'll see a fourth enemy that bounces off the walls. Freeze it and use it to get to the ledge with the red door. Blast it with five missiles and go on through. Cross through the door at the end of this sand filled room. You now are in a vertical shaft with scattered single white blocks. Descend the shaft while hugging the left while. Soon you'll come to a door on that wall. Go through it. Continue left in this room. You'll soon come upon a set of poles organized like steps. On the highest one is a missile expansion. Collect it and return to the vertical shaft. Fall to the bottom and head through the door on the left you find there. Go through the door at the end of this room. Now you should be on a bridge with a green ceiling and spikes. Shoot the red door at the end with five missiles, go through it, and prepare for Kraid. ***BOSS: KRAID*** ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Current Percentage: 80% Items Collected: Morph Ball, Morph Ball Bombs, Long Beam, Ice Beam(2), Wave Beam, High Jump Boots, Varia Suit, Screw Attack, Missiles (18), Energy Tanks (5) Hopefully, you'll have full health, or near it. If you need a health refill sometime in the fight, jump into the quicksand on the right and shoot at the block four down from the door. It should reveal an energy tank. Stand on the ledge with the door, slightly roll off, and then hold RIGHT to reach the tank. To defeat Kraid, you can do one of two things: 1. The hard way: Shoot missiles repeatedly at Kraid while freezing his projectiles. This takes a while to do. 2. The easy way: Roll into your ball form and bombard Kraid with bombs. You'll take some damage, but you'll deal much more to him. Keep this up, making sure to stay aligned with Kraid in order to deal as much damage as possible. After you defeat him you will be awarded with 15 missile expansions. If you haven't done so yet, get the energy tank on the right which is detailed above. ***KRAID'S HIDEOUT*** ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Current Percentage: 85% Items Collected: Morph Ball, Morph Ball Bombs, Long Beam, Ice Beam(2), Wave Beam, High Jump Boots, Varia Suit, Screw Attack, Missiles (18 +15), Energy Tanks (6) Leave the room where you fought Kraid and return to the last vertical shaft you were in. You'll see a long vertical row of breakable blocks. Shoot out some so you can fit in. Then start shooting upwards at the blocks whilst jumping upwards in hopes that the blocks will reappear under you. Repeat this until you've reached the very top of the shaft. Go through the door on the left that you find there. Go through the door at the end of this sand filled room and you'll be back in the central vertical shaft. Drop to the bottom and reuse the floating enemies as stepping steps to reach the left side of the room. Then climb to the top as usual. At the top you'll find the elevator to Brinstar. Hop on and head up. ***BRINSTAR*** ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Current Percentage: 85% Items Collected: Morph Ball, Morph Ball Bombs, Long Beam, Ice Beam(2), Wave Beam, High Jump Boots, Varia Suit, Screw Attack, Missiles (18 +15), Energy Tanks (6) Go through the left door of the elevator room. In this small shaft, jump up until you're on the lowest line of breakable blocks. Shoot straight up and you've cleared through the other rows. To get up easily, jump up and shoot out a block in the middle row so that there is a space for you to easily land. From there, just shoot up at the block above you and continue on through the rooms to the right until you reach a vertical shaft. Ascend this vertical shaft until you see a door on the right. Go through it, its tunnel, and the door at the end of the tunnel. You're now back in the original orange vertical shaft. Descend it until you see another door on the right. Go through it. Navigate this room until you reach the other side and go through the door. Go down the elevator in here to return to Norfair. ***NORFAIR*** ^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Current Percentage: 85% Items Collected: Morph Ball, Morph Ball Bombs, Long Beam, Ice Beam(2), Wave Beam, High Jump Boots, Varia Suit, Screw Attack, Missiles (18 +15), Energy Tanks (6) You'll only be here for a short while, since all you need to do is find your way to Ridley's Hideout. To get there, drop to the bottom of the elevator room and head right through the rooms until you reach the northeastern vertical shaft. Fall to the bottom and bomb out the floor where you did before. Once you're in the other half of the vertical shaft, descnd it. Skip the first door you see on the left, but don't ignore the second. Instead, go through it. You'll be in a room with walls made up of purple circles containing pink dots and a floor of lava. Simply make your way over through the door on the other side. You should now be in another vertical shaft which you should descend until you reach the bottom. Proceed through the door on the right that you find there. This is another elevator room. Go down the elevator to reach Ridley's Hideout. ***RIDLEY'S HIDEOUT*** ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Current Percentage: 85% Items Collected: Morph Ball, Morph Ball Bombs, Long Beam, Ice Beam(2), Wave Beam, High Jump Boots, Varia Suit, Screw Attack, Missiles (18 +15), Energy Tanks (6) Drop to the bottom of this room and take the door on the left. You're now in a white-block corridor. Cross through the door on the other side. You'll be in another white-block corridor. Stand right up against the door you just came through and shoot up at the ceiling. You'll see that blocks are breaking away. Climb up them in the classic block climbing fashion. You'll be in another white block room. Go through the door in the upper-left. You're now in a long oddly-shaped corridor with many enemies about. Just freeze them or screw attack them. Soon you'll see a missile expansion. Grab it while avoiding the blocks on its right side since they are fake. Once you've gotten the expansion return to the bottom half of the second white block corridor and cross through the door on the left you find there. You should now be in a room filled with those bouncy balls and green walls. There is a small lava pool being guarded by a single line of green blocks. Bomb the first block on the left side that is NOT part of this bridge. So, when you bomb it and fall through, you should be standing next to the lava. Now just roll left through the secret passage to bypass all of the obstacles and enemies! Once you can no longer continue to the left, lay a bomb to reveal an opening above you. Jump through it and get onto the platform with the red door. Blast it with five missiles and enter. You'll be in another white-block corridor. There is an energy tank on the left side, but don't get it yet. Two vertical rows of blocks are fake near it. The block it is resting on is safe. The block to the right of that one is safe. The two to the right of that one are NOT safe. However, the block to the right of those two unsafe ones is safe. So, run and jump over the fake blocks and claim the tank. (NOTE: The seventh energy tank won't show up on your screen or even count towards your health. It's just for getting 100%.) Fall through the fake blocks and go through the door you find on the bottom right. Proceed through the door at the end of this room filled with enemies. In here, the walls should be purplish-red. You should be standing on the left side on a ledge staring at a large block blocking your way to the door across. There is a pit in between you and this large block. There is another large block protruding from the ceiling making the space you have to get on top of the large block on the right limited. With correct time and precise jumping, you should be able to clear the block and make it to the other side. But, I'm going to assume you've fallen, because 10 to 1 you will. To get back to that area go through the door on the right, navigate its room, and exit through the door at the end of that room. You'll be in a vertical shaft. Proceed to the top. Cross left through all of the rooms until you come back to the one where you got the energy tank. Then proceed from there and return to that troublesome spot. Once you have finally made it over that difficult jump, go through the door on the right. NOTE: If you're having a lot of trouble with this jump, there is an alternative way to get up there. If you wish, you can use the door at the bottom right of this shaft to ascend to the door you're trying to reach with the wall-door trick. That trick is explained in the Sequence Breaking section of this site. Now that you're in the room, continue on to the right jumping between platforms. Along the side of a wall and atop a pole you'll find another missile expansion. Fetch it and exit this room and proceed to fall to the bottom. Go through the door on the left. Navigate the thin platforms until you reach the platform with a door. Take a deep breath and enter... ***BOSS: RIDLEY*** ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Current Percentage: 92.5% Items Collected: Morph Ball, Morph Ball Bombs, Long Beam, Ice Beam(2), Wave Beam, High Jump Boots, Varia Suit, Screw Attack, Missiles (20 +15), Energy Tanks (7) Now release that breath and realize that you've wasted it since this boss is beyond easy. Those little creatures that crawled around the platforms in Brinstar put up more of a fight. You'll see Ridley sitting atop the highest part of a single platform. Walk along the lowest part so that you're directly in front of Ridley but still a block under it. Now just bombard Ridley with missiles. All of its projectiles will go over you, and all it does is hop up and down. It'll die soon, and once it does, you'll be awarded with another 15 missile packs. Shoot the purple door on the left side of the room with 10 missiles to open it. However, you probably already hit it with a few whenever Ridley would jump up, so just shoot as many at it as you need. Then get on the small white pole and bomb jump through the small gap and go through the door. ***RIDLEY'S HIDEOUT*** ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Current Percentage: 95% Items Collected: Morph Ball, Morph Ball Bombs, Long Beam, Ice Beam(2), Wave Beam, High Jump Boots, Varia Suit, Screw Attack, Missiles (20 +30), Energy Tanks (7) Jump over and in the lava and eventually you'll reach a small piece of land with an energy tank on it. Grab it, and at least you'll get a health refill. Now exit this room, exit Ridley's room, exit the room before Ridley's room, and go through the door on the right of this simple vertical shaft. Navigate this room and exit through the door on the right. You'll be in another vertical shaft. Drop to the bottom and head through the door on the left that you find there. This room is basically one very long narrow hallway covered in those flies that come out of the red plates. Freeze them or screw attack them to get through. Eventually you'll come across a missile expansion. Collect it, and take a break. You've just collected every item in the game! Now all that's left is to conquer the mother brain and destroy it. So what are you waiting for? Return to the vertical shaft you were just in and climb to the top. Proceed left through the rooms until you reach the elevator to Norfair. Ride it on up. ***NORFAIR*** ^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Current Percentage: 100% Items Collected: Morph Ball, Morph Ball Bombs, Long Beam, Ice Beam(2), Wave Beam, High Jump Boots, Varia Suit, Screw Attack, Missiles (21 +30), Energy Tanks (8) Exit the elevator room through the left. Climb to the top of this shaft and go through the door on the right that you find there. Navigate the small platforms over the lava and cross through the door at the end. Ascend to the upper-right platform of this shaft. Shoot out the blocks in the ceiling and uses them to climb above it. Ignore the door you see on the left and climb up until you see another door on the left. Jump across these white platforms and enter the door at the end to reach the elevator room. Once inside, ride the elevator up to Brinstar. ***BRINSTAR*** ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Current Percentage: 100% Items Collected: Morph Ball, Morph Ball Bombs, Long Beam, Ice Beam(2), Wave Beam, High Jump Boots, Varia Suit, Screw Attack, Missiles (21 +30), Energy Tanks (8) Head left through the rooms until you reach the original orange vertical shaft. Climb up it until you see a door on the left. Go through it. Proceed through the gray-bluck tunnel and go through the door at its end. Ascend the vertical shaft you're in now all the way to the top, and go through the door you find there on the left. Cross through this simple room and blast the door at the end with five missile and proceed through it. In this room, shoot the Kraid and Ridley statues so that the each rise. Then a bridge will appear between you and the door to the left. Get into morph ball mode and cross the bridge. Go through the door you find here and you'll be in another elevator room. Ride it down to the final area of the game, Tourian. ***TOURIAN*** ^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Current Percentage: 100% Items Collected: Morph Ball, Morph Ball Bombs, Long Beam, Ice Beam(2), Wave Beam, High Jump Boots, Varia Suit, Screw Attack, Missiles (21 +30), Energy Tanks (8) Start falling down the shaft, and soon you'll see the most fearsome enemy of the game. The infamous Metroid. You must be very careful when fighting them. If they attach to the top of you, you must get into morph ball mode and lay several bombs in hopes that they detach the Metroid from you. If you don't do it in time, you'll die. There's only one way to kill a Metroid. That is to first freeze it, and then blast it with five missiles. Once you get to the bottom of the shaft, you'll notice an orange door. Blast it with ten missiles and enter. The first thing you'll notice as you enter this room is the presence of three fire rings approaching you. Whenever you see one, just freeze it. As long as it's frozen and on screen, no more can come from where it came from. There will be more metroids in here so just freeze them and blast them. At the end of the room you'll find a red door. Blast it with five missiles and enter. Now you're in a vertical shaft. You'll have to constantly walk back and fourth to go down. Along the way you'll encounter more fire rings, so freeze them and pass them by. You'll also begin to see more Metroids, so freeze them and blast them. At the bottom of the shaft you'll find a red door on the left. Shoot it with five missiles and enter. In here it'll seem perfectly safe. But at various points, Metroids will appear as if from thin air. Once they do, be prepared to fight them. Make your way to the left end of this room and exit through the door you find there. Welcome to the gauntlet. This part can be very very agitating if not properly executed. Freeze the fire rings if you can. In front of you you'll see what appears to be a glass encasing between two metal bars. You must rapidly fire it with missiles to get it to disappear. If you're too slow, the glass will begin to regenerate. It can't regenerate once it's been destroyed, though. You'll have to do this several times. Just follow the pattern of freezing the fire rings and then blasting the glass casing with missiles. It's simple, really. Soon, you'll come up to a large brain with glass surrounding it. Prepare for the final boss fight. ***BOSS: MOTHER BRAIN*** ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Current Percentage: 100% Items Collected: Morph Ball, Morph Ball Bombs, Long Beam, Ice Beam(2), Wave Beam, High Jump Boots, Varia Suit, Screw Attack, Missiles (21 +30), Energy Tanks (8) I'm not going to lie. I've had many problems fighting Mother Brain and I died a few times while writing this FAQ. The best advice I can give you is to freeze those little fire rings and avoid falling into the lava. Stand where the glass casing was and blast a hole through Mother Brain's glass case. Now leave the room and fight the Metroids until you have full health if you need to. Return to Mother Brain and just bombard it with missiles. Don't let up. Just keep doing it. If those fire rings unfreeze, refreeze them. Eventually, it'll die and you'll get a message about a time bomb. Time to escape! ***TOURIAN: ESCAPE*** ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Current Percentage: 100% Items Collected: Morph Ball, Morph Ball Bombs, Long Beam, Ice Beam(2), Wave Beam, High Jump Boots, Varia Suit, Screw Attack, Missiles (21 +30), Energy Tanks (8) 999 is plenty of time to escape from Zebes. It's not really an increment of time at all. It's a lot shorter than a second, though. Go through the door behind Mother Brain. You're now in a tall vertical shaft. Climb to the very top. The platforms become narrow along the way, but you've dealt with enough of those to ascend them easily. Just keep going and eventually you reach the elevator. Stand on it and press UP to defeat the game. Congratulations! V. Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) No one's asked me any questions yet, so... yeah.
